Yes the boost does shoot up. Have booked it in for new clutch plate. Going for an upgrade, some thing that will handle the power much better than the stock centre plate.

Typically you will need to change a clutch if :

It is very stiff to operate.

There is excessive judder on take up in 1st or reverse gears, (often a sign of clutch plate / flywheel - pressure plate contamination or damage.

Difficulty in selection 1st gear with the engine running and the car stationary, (and the gear selects easier if you turn the engine off).

Clutch slipping - car in 3rd or 4th gear engine at 3,000 rpm foot well off clutch, accelerate hard and the engine revs up without the car accelerating the appropriate amount, ie the engine seems to "free rev"

There is exsessive noise when you operate the clutch with the engine running. Usually a release bearing.

Unusual pedal feel - this might be the slave / master cylinders rather than the clutch unit it`s self.
Unfortunately, I've just started to experience most (if not all of the above) symptoms on my way to work this morning.

I am thinking of booking my car into East London OPC for a new clutch - can anyone please let me know how much would be a reasonable price to expect for this? Also should I get the RMS (or anything else) done at the same time? While I am at it, I think I will change my aircon compressor at the same time (previously told it's gone at the last service)- what should I put aside for this?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about youre clutch problem. If you need a clutch for youre car i have one here. It was out of my 54 reg Porsche 996tt(manual 6 speed) it has coverd 8341 miles.Never been near a track nor was my car abused, sold my engine last week, and sold the gearbox 6 months ago without clutch fly wheel and rest of the clutch bits.So if you want to save money get in touch,I have an add in parts/plates have a look, good luck getting youre car sorted out.

I decided to go with East London OPC in the end.

Approx £1,500 for a new clutch and RMS
- Feels like a completely different car now, clutch feels light as a feather in comparison. Makes driving in town much more bearable (can't believed I almost considered going for a automatic!). I would recommend having this done for anyone with an excessively stiff clutch.

They also found a slight coolant leak, so had the fixed and got a new aircon compressor as well (longstanding problem) - that was another £1k on topyikes.

They gave me a 10% discount without me having to ask for it so it could have been worse.
