GT3 Mk2 Chin Spoiler Replacement Options...
Discussion
I know that this comes up frequently, but a search wasn`t too conclusive.
I want to replace the lower front chin spoiler on my Mk2 GT3 and I understand that there are two options, Standard or Cup versions.
I heard that the Cup version is larger and cheaper than the standard one, is this correct?
Who is the cheapest supplier for these items, as they seem to be a consumable!

Jasmin or porsche apart both good value and next day by post. If you are fitting it yourself clean and dry painted underside of car well as there is a self adhisive strip on the standard one. also foget the Porsche fixings they are crap BMW do better ones that expand with a gentle tap from a small hammer the screw in ones are crap so are the plunger ones. if you are keeping the car keep a supply of fixings with you and buy 2 chin spoilers as you say they are concumable( alturnatly I have one you can have its on the central reservation of the M3 just past sunbury)
Cup ones are around £80 and the standard ones around £170 from your local friendly OPC.
There are two types of standard fixings, the MKI button type (nice and easy to push in) or the MKII screw in type (you need to use a bent or small screwdriver to fit them as it's too low for a regular screwdriver) They cost around 18p each. I think you need around 13 or so.
You can also get some double sided 3M pressure tape which Porsche can supply. It is much better, but probably more expensive, and less likely to be in stock.
Edited to add: Jasmine only sell the regular ones for the same price as the OPC charge.

Thanks Bo, do you know if its possible to remove and replace one with the car sitting on the ground (looks a bit tight) or is it better to get it up on a lift?
Why are the Porsche fixings crap?
on a flat drive if you drive on to two blocks of wood 6x4' are good that should give you the hight you need as you are never actualy under the car the main thing is to make sure the paint is clean dry and maby wipe with a solvent to take off any grease. Why are the Porsche fixings crap?
I have tried both porsche fixing types both are weeker than they need to be(you do want them to break rather than the PU)but the BMW ones are stronger but still flexable My local Aston bodyshop recomends and uses them.
Re The Fixings.
The good thing about the fixings not being too strong is, In the event that you were to pull off a corner without knowing say on a kirb or a speed hump, then later whilst traveling at speed it blew under the car and caught a tire, It would pull the spoiler off fairly cleanly wiyhout causing a load of damage to the PU.
Exactly this happened to my RS last summer, I was even able to recover the Spoiler, although a bit squashed, i put it back on for a couple of months, and now use as a spare.
A Ramp is the best way to fit the Spoiler, But have you thought of stopping with the front wheels at the crest of a downward slope, that way gives enough space for a decent working area under the front.

I have a Carrera 2 with aerokit MKII...and I have the same problem!
You are speaking about the small front lip below front spoiler, aren't you?
In OPC, it costs about 120€ + painting.
On my car it is painted, but when I see GT3, they have a black lip (not painted?).
With a sport chassis (- 30 mm) and belgian roads :-( , either I buy Porsche part every year, or I try to find someone who could make it. It is possible to make one mould and afterwards many copies. It would be cheaper... not for the first copy but from the 2nd one...

Upon doing a bit of reseach, either people use different names for the different types or there appears to be three types of chin spoiler for the Mk2 GT3.
Standard
Cup
Motorsport
If you include the 11 rivets, adhesive tape and delivery, they range in price from the Standard (£159 to £199) Cup (£135) and Motorsport (£136-£160)
It could be that the Cup and Motorsport ones might be one and the same. The only clear photograph of a Cup one is on Gert`s www.carnewal.com web site. The Motorsport one sounds really low!
So, the final choice is Cup at £135 or Standard at £159. Given that they all get ripped off in the end...
I am leaning toward the Cup one as its cheapest...

I don't know where you get your prices from but I'll do you a deal, I'll get you a Cup splitter delivered to your door in Porsche packaging for £120, can't say fairer than that Standard

Or just call your OPC and they'll tell you they are £80 each

Thierry, 120€ is the right cost for the Cup version from Belgium plus Tax and shipping. In OPC, it costs about 120€ + painting.

I would like to stick with Porsche approved parts wherever possible...
