Sodding BoxS. Took it up to Anglesey for a play on the track there and to see my folks who live nearby...and...the CHECK light comes on, won't go away, and the usual message "Drive To Porsche Centre".

Had it recovered on Monday morning to AFN Guildford who are now going to explain to me how exactly it is possible for this light to illuminate TWICE and have the same sensor replaced TWICE and then to break again for a THIRD TIME!

Is anyone else having trouble with this aspect of their Porsche? What did they DO to fix it in the end?

I am going to be asking Porsche just what they intend to do to make it up to me...and I'll report back on the whole experience.

Porsches. Can't live with 'em. Can't shoot 'em.

Abusing Johnny's Seven again? I don't know...

Bad luck re light. Is it just a wiring fault? Does it affect the way the car drives? Maybe they can just disable it, not that that is the point.

Seems to me that the OPC have just been treating a sympton not the cause of the problem.

Hope the car gets sorted soon.

I even went to visit some badgers this time, Dom!

Thanks for your good wishes. I have been in touch with AFN and told them about the history of the problem so hopefully they will do a more in-depth review of what the problem could be...that and I've called Porsche to register my displeasure.

Not sure what they can DO, though...

If it doesn't stay fixed this time it goes...

Bad luck Don. This has happened to my S twice - hope I'm not due for a third failure. What courtesy car have they given you? I had a Jaguar S type last time, which made a nice change!

Hmmm I sense Don checking is his finances now, to see if there is 996turbo cab money in the piggy bank just in case it happens a 4th time......

Thanks for the good wishes, guys.

Alex: Turbo Cab. I wish! The business needs all its loot at the mo' for rolling out the new product so large chunks of spare money aren't coming out of that and the wife has visions of a loft conversion, a conservatory and a new landscaped garden. Getting a Turbo Cab past her at this stage would involve D-I-V-O-R-C-E!

daz: will pop over to rennlist and have a look. Thanks! Good suggestion.

John: Did they uncover an underlying problem?

Porsche still have the car four days later. I am driving a lovely BMW 5 series which is very relaxing but no sports car...

I have been somewhat firm with Porsche/AFN and told them that third time is definitely unlucky and that when they give me that car back this time I want a written explanation of why they believe it is FIXED permanently and what it was they did. I accept that O2 sensors do break but not three in a row - something they haven't found yet is causing it.

So I have resolved to wait patiently, costing them oodles of rental money, whilst they take as long as is required to deal with issue.

If they can't fix it then we will be having more serious discussions of how it is that I and they can remain friends. I love Porsches. I am not giving up on 'em - but I may do a deal to change the car if I can't sensibly rely on it...

Well the BoxS is back. Very, very shiny and with a new exhaust as well as lambda sensors.

They hope that's the end of the trouble. So do I because I have vowed that if the same fault develops again then it has to go.

They had a Turbo Cab in the showroom. Even the Mrs acknowledged that it was "nice"!

Well that new exhaust is really going to make a difference!???? I hope it does solve it Don, but I'd keep that Turbo cab brochure to hand.

I'd never get that past the Mrs! Nope. If I change its more likely to be to a C4 Coupe. I quite fancy one and it wouldn't be too ludicrous a favour to ask of Porsche to give me a suitably attractive trade-in...

But I really don't want to change. The car is wonderful when its 100% - as it is again now...

Glad you've got it back, Don - such a gorgeous car (especially that colour combo and THOSE wheels ).

As a Tiv owner, I guess these recent problems have probably made you one of the more 'balanced' contributors to these hallowed forae!

{Could you 'do' Brunters this Sunday? I wouldn't mind another 'Don H Experience' where I could hopefully actually appreciate the sodding car rather than curse any celestial inclemency...}

Thanks for your good wishes, my friend. Unfortunately this Sunday I have responsibilities that I must discharge (ooer) which preclude my attendance at the event. On another occasion I would be delighted to demonstrate just how much better the car is than I am!

I really must "do" Bruntingthorpe with the PHers next time...

Have a great day...

AFN only ever found faulty sensors on mine. If it goes again then I'll be after a better explanation. On a more positive note, they've worked out why the hifi hasn't been volume adjusting. Apparently Porsche fitted the wrong microphone from new, and AFN fitted the same part number when they first tried to fix it. Sorted now. Still prefer it to the Cerbera! Written while waiting for dinner time in the Maldives by the way. Hope its p***ing down in the UK

Well its a bit cloudy - and almost certainly cooler!

Yep: its precisely because it was the third time I gave them such a lot of s**t and spoke to Porsche and insisted that they DO something different...

I have a suspicion that they had a large batch of dodgy sensors and I was somewhat unlucky.

If it happens again I will not be amused. But until then its the P&J all over again
