I put some on an early (sqaure dash) car which already had spacers on that allowed it to use later (oval dash) standard wheels. They fitted fine.

What year is the Lux? If it's a late one with ABS then you're ok, otherwise not without big spacers. 968 castor mounts and a good geo would be sensible.

have thought about it but i have found tyre wall distortions on the rear under heavy cornering .. makes for very unsettling high speed cornering. might just be the rubbish Kleber 225/60 on the teledials though. Was trying to decide between new rubber all round or boxster wheels and tyres courtesy of ebay.

If its a 1986 model year car (September 1985 - August 1986) then the wheels wont fit, as this cars shares the series one cars offset of approximately 23mm. Boxster wheels will only suit 1987 onwards ABS offset cars, without the use of spacers.

Absolutely not. You'll need 30mm spacers so add about £200 to the cost. Only late Luxes with ABS have the later offset.

I would go for 16" D90s instead. Now I'm sure I have a set of those lying around somewhere... wink

Did the 944 turbos have 16" Teledials on or are all teledials 15" x 7J ?

Sorry, I thought it was as simple as the offset changing when the dash changed. My spacers were indeed about 30mm on an early car in order that later teledials fitted and so the 986 ones went straight on.

There are early & late offset 16" teledials - not easy to find though...

Boxster wheels look wrong on a 944 IMHO

Is that a standard 85.5 car then? As the OP was asking about?

If, as he asked, it's a standard 85.5 car with teles on it won't accept late-offset wheels without expensive spacers. I'm happy to be proved wrong, if anyone wants to take a bet.....confused

Plenty of cars have been changed over the 20-plus years since they were made, but I work on the basis that the OP has given us as much info as he has, and I reply based on that info.

Is there a way to measure the offset or is it written on the inside of the wheel with the size?

On genuine wheels the rim width will be displayed in inches, and the offset in millimetres. 6 ET57 or maybe 8 65 etc. With regards to the offset that your car requires, the following is correct, without a shadow of doubt (assuming as nominal 7" rim): series one 944 (1982 - 1985 model years) 23mm - 1986 model year series two 944: 23mm - series two 944 (1987 to 1991 model years) 52mm. 924Ss use 52mm offset 6" wheels.

Remember that you need to keep the centre of the rim where Porsche intended, irrespective of the rims width; so each extra inch in rim width will equate to a further 12.5mms offset...

I appreciate this is an old thread but I have a January 1986 Porsche 944 oval dash and no ABS. Chassis no. WP0ZZZ94ZGN402924.
We have teldials which are late offset wheels of ET 52.3mm that are correct with that chassis no.
What I’m saying is, contrary to some of tge suggestions above, surely from at least January 22nd 1986 (even without abs) later offset wheels will fit without spacers.
