Thanks for all the info, very good reading.

With regard to the steering rack mod is it something which is diy or is it a specialist job? (im quite handy but not a mechanic)

You can do it yourself.
Just make sure that what you do is well done and safe.

Choose a good grade alloy and take your time.
You could go up in 5mm steps like I did, or whatever you decide.
Be aware that there is a point in the vertical lift where the P/S hoses will touch the chassis........this is not acceptable. A clerance gap must be maintained, however small.
When the rack is in its lifted position you must re-check and adjust the geometry as needed.
I am sure that you will "feel" by driving the Tuscan when it is at the optimum.

Do not forget.........BE SAFE........practice good Engineering. If in ANY doubt get a qualified person to check your work before you drive the Tuscan

Regards.

Thanks, from your pics it looks like its literally just 3 x 5mm spacers under the rack?

I have heard lots about this mod, i'm going to have a look this weekend and see what it looks like down there.

cheers

If it's anything like mine, you'll struggle to lift it much more than about 5mm without moving other things, eg oil cooler, oil pipes etc. An alternative way to tackle it is to use the cranked steering arms that Str8six are selling.

SE - the rack itself was widened (same housing afaik) in 2001 with shorter track rods. Just trying to compare your rack lift amount with the starting geometery.

Is that the bump steer upgrade they do
http://www.str8six.co.uk/Parts/page4.html

Its a wedge of money, is it worth doing that bad? I am used to driving cars with stiff modified suspension and to me the tuscan feels not a great deal different but i'm always trying to improve things.

Is bump steer properly defined as when you hit a bump and the car pulls a random direction? If so then yes the tuscan does like doing that.

Thanks for the link, very good video and i now think i understand what its all about. I think the tuscan suffers from bump oversteer? As for example sometimes if you apply any power around even the slightest bend and theres a bump in the road you could very likely end up sideways.

Do tvr power do this mod? as the cars going there soon for the running in service and would be nice to kill two birds with one stone.

The fronts toe in on bump which isn't great for cornering stability.

Just had front spacers fitted while car in at Power for a service, handling was pretty good before but there is a definate improvement, the car noticably holds and seeks a straight line more than before, if that makes sense. (Power did recheck geo' aswell tho so that may be a factor)
Also my Gaz shocks have been squeeking of late and Ab shocks repaired them under warranty inspite of being 4 yrs + old. Had the units refurbed at same time at only £25 each. Seemed v reasonable and has also improved the ride.
Car v nice to drive now, probably best its been smile

instead of putting spacers you could put curved steering heads like those of the ford galaxi

so called
