...isn't. grumpy

Not a sound from the mechanism when I press the badge. I've had a nose around and nothing obvious so is the consensus that the mechanism behind the badge needs adjusting?

If so, how to get the badge off the plinth? A knife and brave pills?

Could be the switch behind the badge or the solenoid. I'd start with the switch.

You need to remove one or both of the rubber surrounded bungs/pieces of carpet in the boot (if you are in, otherwise you need to use the secret entry method to get into the boot). If you reach into the cavity you will find 2 bolts to the back of the badge, can't remember what size. Unscrew and the badge will come off revealing the switch. Easy enough just a bit fiddly!

Thanks mate.

Yep, I'm in but it's a 2s so the badge is actually mounted on the boot itself....any ideas before I start tearing the carpet off the underside? yikes

I don't know for sure but would have thought that it is the same fixing. Can't imagine how else it would be fixed.

There's no need taking the carpet off. Remove the "manhole" covers end you can reach the two nuts that are holding the badge.

Try opening and closing the passenger door. Happened to me on a couple of occasions, and on the 2nd time remembered someone on here saying the passenger door ecu controls the boot release also. Started working immediately after I did it.

Also, not sure if the mk2 has this, but the mk1 has a little button which locks the boot and doors from the inside when pressed.

OP, did you ever need to remove the boot badge? I’ve peeled the carpet back slightly to reveal a metal cover with pop rivets, surely I don’t need to drill them out to access the bolts on the badge?

Cockey,

RE: but the mk1 has a little button which locks the boot and doors from the inside when pressed.

Where is the button ?

Only got my Tuscan today and the owners manual is crap, my dog could have done a better job writing it and he only knows how to write in Mandarin !

To expand a little I found it was the internal button that seemed to affect the boot release. Happened occasionally over several months but hasn't happened now for years.
