Can I fit a 'sports' exhaust?

Walldonway have been doing this for months, got mine done on delivery in September 2000. Basically they fit a sleeve in to the rear cans, held in with screws, so if you need to drop the noise back down, you remove the rear cans (a couple of bolts) the remove the sleeves (the screws mentioned) and refit the rear cans, should take about 20 mins max.
Give Paul Wood a ring on 01732 841021 to find out more or to book it in - they also do a service where you courier the rear cans down and they do a return with sleeves the same or next day! Costs about 100GBP + VAT I think
It sounds great, more pops and bangs and louder, but still not intrusive in the cabin, I have driven Maidstone to Rotterdam with no problems.

Couldn't agreee with Graham more (and that doesn't happen very often!!).
Had the conversion done at the 1000 mile service, cans dhl'd to Waldonway on Tuesday, converted Wednesday and back with my dealer for fitting Thursday! Came to around GBP150 all in if I remember correctly.
Sound louder on the idle, nice roar on accelerating and lots of lovely crackles and pops on the overrun. Wonderful!!

Graham and RosieI've just managed to source the correct stainless steel tubing and am going to try sleaving the cans this weekend (Ive GOT to get it done before Le mans!). If it's successful I shall pass on all the details so that others can do it.
It should be very simple. You basically cut a 17" long 2"OD (thin gauge) length of stainless steel, insert into the rear of the can and secure with a small screw.
I believe the stainless steel is around £20 for a 1.5 metre length which is probably enough for 3 cans so I may have a spare!

Walldonway do something with a line of weld along the end to get a good fit (or something) so it *may* not be as simple as you think, however, then again it may be and you could do them cheaper and make a living out of it!!

Just followed your example and had Walldonway convert mine on saturday.
What a sound..blows the socks of anything else on the road. I just couldn't wipe that smile off my face when I came out of the Dartford Tunnel..! Love the crackles and pops on the overrun.
Just a thought; this modification doesn't invalidate engine warranty or effect engine in any way does it?
(might be a stupid question but thought I'd ask..)

The 'official' line is the factory do NOT support ANY exhaust modifications
I take it you're not on the Tuscan egroup then as this was discussed in some detail last June/July.

Anyone had any bad experiences with the modifications (other than pedestrians putting fingers in their ears) i.e. engine problems etc..?
If a number of the main dealers are doing these modifications it would indicate their support or that in their eyes the modification does not represent any potential problems would it not? Think I had better ring Fernhurst to see where they stand officially with this..!

I imagine these mods will reduce back pressure in the exhaust, so if anything the engine should become more efficient and give a bit more power - otherwise the Max Power brigade would knocking on Demon Tweeks doors with their hairy knuckles!! I can't see how it wold adversely affect the engine - but I'm no engineer... 
likewise, I don't understand it fully either. However the speculation/advice at the time was that the sleeving would cause (or change the form of) a standing wave in the system and this could drastically effect back pressure.
The other thing (apparently) is that this sleeving increases the amount of popping and banging (which of cause is a very good thing
) - but of cause this is a symptom of unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust and then igniting. Apparently this will then poison (or burn out) your cats as well as the wadding in the other silencers (not to mention any problems it might cause the engine).
No don't shoot the messenger here - this is all informed/ill-informed stuff I picked up from the Tuscan egroup and none of it has been verified.
On a brighter note I've heard a couple of Tuscans that've had it done and they sound fantastic.

The message from the workshop there was it will not have ANY effect on the engine or damage it in any way,
However, if the engine or car develops any fault and needs to go back to the factory, Fernhurst would remove the sleeves.
It would appear that the factory is covering it's own back by not supporting these modifications but that the dealers do not agree with that.
I suspect the factory does not support Cerbera sports exhaust either then..?

I understand from the grapevine that the Tuscan warranty (or certain aspects of) will not be honoured by TVR or their dealers if non-factory approved exhaust modifications have been made. As I understand it at this moment in time there are no factory approved Tuscan exhaust modifcations available. I'd recommend any people considering fitting aftermarket exhaust systems or mods contact the factory to clarify the sitation. Be careful boys and girls - it could be expensive...
