Throttle springs and Paddock Spares
Discussion
Recently pulled the plenum to have a go at a valley gasket weep much worsened by a backfire; and decided to change the two (yes, two) throttle plate springs.... Paddock do them at a reasonable cost plus the usual standard postage charge we all expect, so pushed the button... paid, but then a refund was received and notified as the items went in a simple large letter. Not a big deal but completely unexpected and a nice touch so gratefully received and acknowledged
Excuse the numpty question
I've never took my plenum off and not looked that closely at the throttle.
Do you mean the two springs visible that pull the throttle back to off
Or the spindle springs.
I've recently added a second spring on mine as I only ever had one and it's helped hugely in smoothing on off throttle at low revs. It's firmer to press but I like that too. Better control.

I've actually removed one of the return springs to make the throttle a bit softer. Quite a few people do.
I carry the other one with me in the car of course, could be scuppered otherwise if it broke. In fact, I'm wondering if 2 are fitted as a safety issue. With only one, is it possible for the throttle to stick wide open if it snapped?

It's all personal preference. I use more fuel and the car feels faster with a single spring, it's obviously not faster but you inevitably use more throttle than required as it's just to easy to press
Rather than remove one spring id go for less pressure springs so you retain its ability to shut off if one goes twang.
I've had to replace two throttle cables because they were lumpy. Didn't even think to consider the springs. My newest cable gets oiled and still can feel slightly notchy but since putting another spring on it's been excellent especially at 0-5% throttle openings which is where it used to be a bit abrupt.
