I had my AC serviced this week, it needed recharging, a tiny tiny leak but it has sat unused for 9 months so probably not unusual.

But when I run the AC, it only cools the air to 60f as compared to the air being 76f when off coming through the vents. This is not cool at all, and ambient air temperature is 21c with high humidity.

But when I run the AC, it only cools the air to only 60f -53f as compared to the air being 76f when off. This is not cool at all, and ambient air temperature is 72f with high humidity

The blower is working fine, and I removed the stepper motor, as it is broken, and the flap is shut allowing cold air only through the system. I will fix that later. The box seems pretty well sealed.

Could the evaporator be poorly performing the heat transfer from the air? Could the expansion valve be faulty?

Any ideas?

I just had my aircon fixed, they replaced the receiver/dryer canister/some hoses and regas , they advised the receiver/dryer should be swapped every few years? Maybe yours needs that swapping if still the original one?

Sounds like not enough gas, or it's leaking faster than you think!

Either way, take it back.

As phillpot says sounds like low gas charge. If you can seek out a proper fridge / A/C guy to help, most car shops just chuck gas at the system which is ok for a while. A guy with gauges will show the pressures , blocked valve or dryer or knackered compressor & if needed pressure test the system. Good Luck. BTW off evap temp should be about <10oC (50F)

Just been sorting my aicon out on t350, new condenser replacement leaking pipe self fitted. Had it gassed up and straight away it felt cool. Left it a week then went for a run, no cool air. Took it back to check for leaks, turns out it was all good. Discovered that the vent pipes to the screen have become disconnected, cold air to the dash vents but cold air to the screen vents getting lost behind the dash somewhere and coming out tepid. Could be an option if all else comes back as ok

Are replacement parts readily available? Mine has had so little use over the 6 yrs i've never really worried about the fact it didn't run that cold. Tried it again recently and something sounded like it seized up. I was told it's a bespoke system and a pain to diagnose/fix?

I replaced the receiver dryer, and the AC expansion valve. The valve was bad.

Removing & replacing the drier was a pain! But all good now
