Rebuild and Spruce Up Thread
Discussion
So a bit of an update. In Dom’s at Powers Performance words “It’s a blinking huge salvage”.
Lots of shiny new metal, including near side engine bay chassis rail. Just outriggers to do.
So, by the time it is all finished it will have had; 4.3 upgrade and new cylinder head, new oil and water pumps, new starter, upgraded injectors, refurbished chassis, new interior trim and a full respray with colour change.
I’ve owned it for 12 years and it is a keeper and will be an heirloom, so “if you’re going to do it do it properly”

OK, so things are progressing.
The body is off, NS d outrigger appears the worst area, but will have to wait until the chassis is shot blasted to see the full extent of corrosion.
One thing that to me seems striking from the photos is the lack of white powder coat left on the chassis as a whole. Don't know whether that is what you expect of a 16 year old chassis or not.
I bet there are a lot of T cars out there that really could do with a body off refurb not to mention older cars, Chims, Griffs, Cerbs etc.
The exhaust manifolds are at Zircotec for a nice black ceramic coating.
I'm going to have to be patient, but when all the work is done the car will be far superior than when it left the factory.
The tyres on your car are really bugging me, I keep returning to the pictures to see if I'm missing something. The body is off, NS d outrigger appears the worst area, but will have to wait until the chassis is shot blasted to see the full extent of corrosion.

It's hard to see the tread pattern on the rear N/S tyre but on front and O/S rear you appear to have three identical tyres.
Presumably these are directional treads so the fronts must be incorrect.
Please put my mind at rest, right or wrong.

The tyres are identical, Vredestein Sessanta asymmetric. It's hard to see the tread pattern on the rear N/S tyre but on front and O/S rear you appear to have three identical tyres.

Time for an update. The chassis has been fully repaired with new outriggers and some other chunks of chassis. Zinc and powder coated. Bits going back on now, about another 3 weeks work according to Dom.
Shiny!
Ready for rebuild.
Suspension and wheels going back on.
Shiny Speed 6 with Zirconium coated manifolds.
It’s been a long haul with problems on the way (not down to Powers), can’t wait to get her back! She’s going for a full re-trim and respray when I get her back. She should be one of the finest MK1s out there when all the work is completed (IMHO of course )

Saw your chassis on Saturday, it’s certainly looking good now. Picked ours up after the rebuild and drove it 200 miles home. That was interesting, hadn’t driven it for 12 months and we decided to stay over night, so left in the morning in heavy snow!
Can’t believe how smooth the engine is, just need to get it run in now.
Good luck with yours and looking forward to seeing the finished photos...

So after quite a few months I picked her up today.
It felt very strange initially driving her after nearly 3 years. It was mainly motorway miles (125).
First impressions; the engine felt a bit rough at low revs, I’m hoping this will smooth out as the engine runs in. At higher revs 2-3K it is sweet! The increase in torque is really noticeable. Acceleration is smooth and effortless. Can’t wait for the car to be run in so I can really explore it and start giving it some beans!
It’s off to Bristol Avenue, Blackpool in the next few weeks for a full re-trim and respray. Pictures to follow.
