Hi guys,

Can anyone advise me how much would engine mount replacement cost on tvr Tuscan would cost?
I was told by TVR specialist that it would cost 3 hours labour £75+vat per hour plus parts.
Is this reasonable or I am being overcharged? Can this be replaced by any mechanic that is charging less for labour?

Many thanks

It would take three hours if they lift the car and then go down the pub for two...

Yes any one can do it. From memory It's four bolts and supporting the engine. Take the bonnet off and look down the side of the engine on the passenger side. The mount connects the support arm to the chassis. You'll see it clearly.

Did they give you a special reason for this lengthy mount change.

Thank you for your advices guys.

I thought so that anyone can do it.
It is true that tvr tax is included.
They haven't give me any special reason as to why would take them so long.
I own the Tuscan for last 8 years since my brother left the country and gave it to me.
Haven't used it for good 3 years and was parked in garage, since my first child was born last year decided to sell it so wanted to service it and put it back on road in order To selll it.
Took it down to tvr garage in Surrey and the work they estimated beside the engine mount is crazy, i guess it's only so they can rip me off.
If there is anyone interested in the car please contact me.
Many thanks

Where in Surrey are you?

The exhaust side is trickiest to do but not sure where 3-hours has come from.

Pretty simple job that any competent mechanic should be able to do easily.

Lift car.
Remove wheels.
Remove undertray (IIRC).
Support engine.
Crack nuts.
Raise engine a knatts dodad.
Remove nuts and mounts.
Fit new mount - adjust height of engine to ease fitting.
Torque nuts.
Lower engine.
Recheck nuts.
Refit undertray and wheels.
Lower car.

You may wish to add some heat shield if not there on the exhaust side.

Heck if your that desperate and have the mounts, I'll do 'em for £50 winkbiggrin

ETA: top lurking BTW.

I did this on MY SP6 Cerbera. It took me longer than 3 hours. I also had to cut the threads of the new mounts down on the exhaust side to get the new mounts in. It wasn't an easy job for me. In saying that I am no mechanic, Far from it,

Next time I do it I would be a bit quicker I am sure. But Jacking up the engine high enough to access the mounts was the worst bit as I was sure I was going to damage something else jacking the engine up so high.

Thank you for your offer mk1fan.
I am based in sw19.
The car is in tvr garage but I will just take it back and not go ahead with the service and repairs I was quoted.
I would happily take your offer if it still suits you sw19.
Let me know and I will get the mounts.

I must admit I am overwhelmed with the feedback I am getting I wish I waisted this site much earlier.

Thank you all

Whilst I would gladly help the offer was tongue in check. I am very much an ameteur mechanic.
