Water Temp / Fuel Gauge Stepper Motors

After initially going a problem with my fuel gauge was down to a bad connection in the wiring, it's now looking like the stepper itself is sticking / duff.
Looks like it's held on with two screws, then has a spindle to attach the 'shutter'.
Looks like I can get the motor (26M048B2U) at DigiKey:

Just wondering if anyone had ever removed / replaced these?
I assume it's a pod-out job, but how does the shutter attach to the steppers spindle?
To remove the stepper I assume I'll need to get into the gauge and remove something securing the shutter in place on the spindle?
