Carpet replacement
Discussion
Si, I did mine a few years ago with a set from Odin Vanpoorten (Sp?).
Did it with a (capable) mate over a long week-end. Had to remove steering column - which meant cutting wires to ignition switch, in order to get the front 'tray' out to renew covering on that.
Not too difficult. I went for synthetic fibre as the colour is put in during manufacture, it hasn't faded at all so far.

Hi, this is a winter project for me with my 2001 mark 1 Tuscan. It was supposed to be last years winter project but that didn’t happen so I can’t put it off again. I would be very interested to hear any advice or issues you may discover as I am a little daunted by the task.
Thanks
Martin

This is a good read

The tray does come out without removing the column...you have to cut a piece of the tray's fibre glass away behind the column in-situ so that you can wiggle it out...its a pig and *watch out for the light dimmer pot* !!!! I "wiped" the top off mine during re-install...buggar! Lucky they are still available off ebay!

Hi Nick
Thanks for the reply, you mean the front tray inbetween the top and bottom of dash
Cheers

- - Yes, the tray/oddments shelf surrounds the steering column. The multi-pin plug disconnects all the 'instrument' feeds, but the wires to the ignition switch are more of an issue. Had to cut in the end. The column is reasonably easy to detach...best with 2 of you though - one person to take the weight/jiggle whilst attending to support bolting. Torx type bolts for the clamp to the shaft piercing the bulkhead. Thanks for the reply, you mean the front tray inbetween the top and bottom of dash

The way we found best to place carpet pieces was to 'spot' glue and offer up to grp tub, then once happy with position, do a full spray glue job. I used German contact adhesive in an aerosol, also got several cans of adhesive remover....Quite happy with results.
