For those with a 2004 Tuscan, wondering how many are still running the original engine without any rebuild.

Probably worth trying over in the Speed 6 forum for a wider response.

Although mine had a new head 7 years ago I believe it would still be original if I hadn't put some crap fuel in which led to detination which burnt a valve.
Doesn't directly answer the question but thought I'd share smile

Many Tuscans and other S6 cars are still running on original engines, something over 80% if my personal experience is anything to go by. To quote the premier engine builder 'they were not all bad'. Some listed here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Theres nothing special about a 2004 Tuscan is there?
My 2000 tuscan red rose is still on original engine , no rebuild and it has run like a dream ever since I bought it in 2015.
Perhaps the reliance buyers put on "has it had an engine rebuild" is not necessarily so important.
If a car gets to 20 years old not requiring a rebuild perhaps the engine was fine in the first place.

How do you know it's still on its original engine ? Does it still have its two piece finger followers? I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised if it has.

thinking about it, they might have only been on the cerbs6 as that was out first .. along with the starter motor on the bellhousing and removable cubby hole to change it hehe Whoever though that was a good idea!

Only thing special about the 2004 is that its the year of the car I'm looking at purchasing. I'd read that engines after 2002 were meant to be better built but there seems plenty that have had rebuilds.

My understanding was that it was after 2004 that more of the engines issues were dealt with (Smolenski).
My 2000 Tuscan had a rebuild at 35k and at 70k.
My 2006 Tuscan is at 85k on the original.

Maybe someone like Jason Clegg, ex-TVR Engine man at Str8 Six could advise on the finer details.

There was a step change mid-2002 (when mine last had a rebuild) but no definite info at the time on what had been changed. Before that multiple rebuilds were fairly common.

Mine is on that wiki, still going strong at 61k. Although the car is a 2004, as it was delivered in Jan the build is late 2003. My view is that the later Mk1's get an unfortunate stigma because of the early cars. Strange that it doesn't afflict the Mk2, T350, Tamora and Sagaris that had the same spec engines installed.

My mate just left us after weekend here and his Tuscan'02 is on 63,000 miles and has not been touched, just serviced regular and is stunning. Years back there was a guy with an '04 T350 that was on his THIRD rebuild at 15,000 miles yikes go figure, hence I sold mine at that time banghead

2002 Tuscan. I have had her for 3 years. She was at 42k when i got her. Now at 46k. All original. I have had the shocks replaced and the clutch, master and slave done ( all originals apparently). Other than that she seems to be healthy. Great power great fun. Str8six did the last 12k service with nothing really to report on the engine.

I took her camping with the family last week. Got a 10 man tent in the boot. Try that in a Porsche! : )

2003 Tuscan S, had it since 2012, now 55k and still original engine.
Never sorned, serviced annually at HHC, had the timing chains and half time bearings replaced a couple of years ago.
Pulls and drives really well, veteran of many European trips (which from Edinburgh is no mean feat).
