I just read on the Pistonheads site about the European Whole Vehicle Type
Approval for the Morgan Aero 8.
Is TVR working on this for the Tuscan ?
I have been promised delivery of my LHD
Tuscan 3.6 in February 2002 , but to get it
legally registered in Belgium, the car needs this
approval.
Any news on this mr. Petrolted ?

koen,could you tell more about your LHD Tuscan please; Does TVR plan to offer LHD to any models?
(I'm rather obssessed with owning a LHD Cerbera... )

My car is ordered from Alvan Motors (the belgian TVR importer). They have orders now for 8 or 9 LHD Tuscans in total. The factory will start delivering these LHD cars in january 2002. The only problem is the european type approval which might not be achieved in time. So probably all the first delivered cars will be registered on English numberplates. If you want more information, please give a call to Alain Vandriessche (+32 9282 2453)from Alvan Motors.
As far as I know, there are only a couple of LHD Cerberas in existance.
These cars have been rebuild from a RHD
Cerbera by the Swiss TVR importer.
This is an expensive operation (I heard +4000 GBP). On the Cerbera section of the Pistonheads site, there is a picture of one of these, and maybe some
more information.

just a practical question:
Have you found anyone to permanently insure a car on a foreign reg number? When I tried to do this here in the UK, I was told I had to officially register my car in the UK within a month - and that was no Tuscan (just a 205!). Imagine, I'd be great otherwise: cheap French car insurance and a French plate as a speeding pass! I am also supposed to swap my French license for a UK one but this I will never do!

what insurance company did you use ?
Not every company is prepared to insure a car just on the chassis nr.
By the way, how are reactions on the
Tuscan in Belgium ?

thanks for your infos with the LHD Cerbie (which I already knew by the way!);so it seems there won't ever be any factory-built LHD Cerbies..........(cries!)
Never mind! Actually I am so much used to looking at pictures of RHD Cerbies than I can't conceive anymore having one with the steering wheel on the left side!!

Oh yeah, maybe in the Netherlands it's easy but in France, which is (believe me) the European country with the most stupid car legislation, you'd better be wealthy (and deadly patient)to think about importing a RHD Tiv
Maybe I should go to leave in Holland after all......;-)

Tell us more about the hardship of importing a TVR in France? Is this something you are trying to do? What were the problems? I may face a similar situation in a not so distant future...

Well rthierry,
I am just too young and not yet wealthy enough to buy a Cerbie, but as I know how the administration works and given that the Cerb is not an homologated car in France, I'm sure it would be quite of a stressful battle to import one

Don't know where you are from, but I suppose you know there are only 3 TVR garages in France (Paris, Cannes, Bordeaux) and that Cerbera's have TVR made AJP engine with which very French mechanics would be familiar with! Whilst the Rover based V8 Griff / Chimaera are on the other hand widely used engines. Not trying to scare you... just thought I'd mention it! By the way, if money is a concern you also may need to know that Cerbies are considerably more expensive to run and maintain than the 2 mentionned above.

I'm from Paris.I know Cerberas are expensive to maintain but which fine sportscars are not expensive to run?
I know very well that the AJP V8 is not as common as the Rover V8 and that is why I am seriously considering going to leave in the UK as soon as I can in order to own a Cerbera: owning one in France would be crazy for as you said regular mechanics would not know about its engine
