Why should I buy one ?

Currently got a 4ltr Chimp and a 400SE ,but I've got this insane urge to get a Tuscan .
Has anybody got a scary enough story to cure this illness or good news to confirm my madness .
Both the Chimp and Wedge are used every day , the Tuscan would be the same , I honestly believe these beasts have to be driven,

If you are tempted to buy a tuscan just look at the posts on this site. Ask yourself how many problems you see with them related to those for the Rover engines. My advice is to stick with the classic models. Do you want to spend all your holidaye in Blackpool? Your tuscan probably will.

well if you like everone pointing and smiling at you get one. Probably the most stylish TVR made. Chimps are too common. The Tusacans seem to have ironed out alot of troubles after mods. Any way its only money

I had a 4l Chimp - great. Now I've got a Tuscan. Similar fun just faster and less common. I use it everyday and it is more practical than the Chimp was, bigger boot and more mpg. Found out yesterday you can get a Black & Dekker workmate in a Tuscan boot ( Don't ask )

So far seems to be just as reliable, with the normal occasional TVR niggles now and again, but no real problems.

I had a Griff 500 and had the same reservations but went ahead anyway.
Caused chaos with the traffic almost stopping dead and gawping driving home,
looks awesome and as said before not very common.

From recent posts it seems nobody agrees with me - but why are there so many almost new low mileage tuscans for sale at massive markdowns? There appear to be lots of unhappy owners out there. Why?

I don't deny there have been some problem cars althouth I'm pleased at 7000 miles mine does not seem to be one of them. In respect of the cars for sale, most are selling for low to mid 30's, which although ain't brilliant, isn't that bad either considering the time of year, and overall depressed state of the car market. Also the number of cars for sale or owners who are having serious problems is still fairly small in comparison to the several hundred which have now been sold. I wish people would stop portraying the car as a complete disaster, because it isn't. Sure people need to be aware of the potential problems they may encounter, and the more contructive postings on this site fulfil this requirement. But don't forget that there are many satisfied owners who may not have ever purchased the car if they had all taken your advice.

I have recently parted company with my beloved Chimaera whilst waiting for delivery of a new Tuscan S. I have read many of the posts which have been negative but at the end of the day I think this car is just fantastic. Looks are fantastic and the performance ain't too bad If you have a good relationship with your dealer then I think that you should be OK.

Im thinking of getting the normal Tuscan. Everywhere i read i hear traction is rubbish on wet roads (no use up here in Glasgow!!!) Ive heard of Hydratrak. Does that improve traction on wet and dry roads? please reply as i seriously think ill get one soon! Do they have alot of problems with interior exterior. Doesnt any rain get into those two massive holes in the bonnet design? Please help!

It's a TVR with 360bhp going through the rear wheels, YOU have to change your driving style accordingly in the wet.

There are differing opinions on Hydratrack - lots of info on this site. Probably more in the Cerbera section as it's an option on the 4.2, I presume it's standard on the Tuscan?

They are there to duct the air - don't think it will cause problems. There is only the fans/rad under there. Interestingly my Griffith often has steam coming out of the vent (it looks as though it's overheating) as the rain runs down the bonnet onto the radiator!

I had more problems with rain & the griff than the Tuscan I have now.

Just picked up the Tuscan yesterday after sitting in the rain in a heathrow carpark over the weekend (the car that is, not me). No problems. On the other hand, the griff's alarm once short-circuited from water ingress while I was out the country & went off non-stop, got towed away (+a fine) etc.

If you drive at about, say, 60mph on a rainy motorway or normal road, does it slide even a bit? Do TVR fit CD players into Tuscans. I saw the brochure said CD compatible but didnt say anything about the CD player itself. I know I should do a test drive soon, but is the steering edgy doing a normal "city centre corner"? This site is great. Is the handbrake hard to apply on and off? (I'm 5 foot 7) Whats the space behind the seats for? Thanks alot!!

Yes, (360bhp rear wheel drive and about 1200kg) but so does my smart car if you put your foot down !!!!!!
You wont want CD player spend the money on a sports exhaust instead !!!
Hand brake very easy
Steering fine a little like wheel is attached to rack with jelly (too much pas for my liking)

Best go drive one in the rain me thinks !!!

Are there any options that would increase the pleasure of the car? (ie air con? full hide?) Whats the advantages of fitting a sports exhaust?

Air con is essential IMO. There is so much heat coming off the transmission that you will need it even in winter sometimes. I had full hide but not air con in my griff 500 (barking mad) - my girlfriend at the time said the smell of the leather made her sick - do you think she was telling the truth? I don't have air con in my chimp either, but most of the tuscans I have seen do have it specced. If I changed my TVR in the future air con would be my top wish.

Does anyone know if Aircon can be retro fitted to a Tuscan. I didn't have it in my 400SE or Griff 500 but beginning to think the Tusc really ought to..

as it costs £1,800 as original spec I think it would be prohibitively expensive to retro fit it.

In my opinion it doesn't actually work very well anyway.
