I've got a 2Kw Long starter from London & Essex Auto Electrics (part no. LRT161TVR) . My Tuscan now sounds like a machine gun when it's started smile .

Interesting! Can you recall the price?

I like the idea of that noise on start up. No problems with it being 2kw rather than 1.7kw? Mine is a 4.0 red rose engine.

I'm looking at changing my starter motor and came across this invaluable thread. Many more thanks to PetrolHeadPete.

Have the options changed since the thread started? I have a short starter motor on my T350, so the only higher power motor I can find is by racetech. It's tempting to bite the bullet and make the mods for the larger motor as there seem to be more motors in this size available.

How is your London & Essex Auto Electrics starter going glow worm?

Glad its useful. I had to change mine the other day for reasons I wont bore you with. Anyway, I bought this one and its a belta!

Search ebay for this:

MAE NRT00161 (1.7Kw)

Look down the listing you'll see it mentions M5. £80 delivered

I think you must have bought the last one!
I've gone the long bodied Racing Green route. Not silly money and a 2 year warranty.

Have just replaced mine with a heavy duty starter from powers using this thread as a guide. Seemed to go quite well, and all working much better now (although needs a proper test tomorrow). Whoever had put the original starter in 20 years ago had definitely had their Weetabix, getting the bolts out was a job.

I made some minor mods to the bracket, similar to those described in this thread, and made some simple back-spacers for the air box bracket. The only piece I didn’t do was to space back the clutch bleed thingy. I needed some 10mm I/D pipe for that. Instead I’ll save that job for another day and in the interim I’ll apply the TVR philosophy and zip-tie it out the way smile

Worked great until last summer , when it started having problems when the engine was hot . Got a bit paranoid this summer, worried about failing to start after re-fueling , so got X-Works to look at it. Straightaway Heath said "Flat spot on the starter, I'll get it replaced under warranty ". Now replaced with a new one and perfect...amazing how time flies , didn't realise it was 4 years old smile
