A few days ago I put up this post, asking if anyone could assist :

I'm after a favour........... It appears that the rear shock absorber lower adjusting ring has a cracked in two (Not the height adjustment ring....but the lower thinner one that ensures that the main ring is secure). Anyone have an old shock on their shelf that they would donate the bottom securing ring off.

Don't know how it's happened as this car is absolutely mint underneath (Polished : Chassis/Brakes/Suspension Components), but for some reason it appears that the lower ring has had some metalic reaction and just started to corrode ! ! ! and on attempting to adjust it, it's cracked in two. If I remember rightly someone else suffered the same not too long ago.

Willing to pay for it + P&P costs.

Thanks in advance

Jim
Basil brush replied that he had one and would dig it out for me, unfortunately he didn't have a C-Spanner to remove the part I needed, and mailed the whole shock absorber & spring.......taking his time to package it, mail it, and pay nearly ten pounds to mail it to me.

How's that for Piston Heads Community Spirit.

Basil : Please e-mail me at jimgreen72@yahoo.com, with your address so I can mail you the money as promised. Recieved the shock this morning.

Regards

On a similar note I had a run in with a pheasant resulting in my n/s wing mirror being damaged. Froggie very kindly sent me a used mirror from a Scirocco (handy to know for future ref)FOC and posted at his own expense despite me asking him for his address to send a cheque.

Mirror being painted next week. so thanks to Froggie, makes you feel better that there are still some like minded generous individuals willing to help others where they can when all we hear is doom and gloom about today's broken society.

BTW anyone know where I can get the mirror glass with back plate inc heating element? RG are quoting £70 + vat yikes and I can't seem to find one from a breaker or on ebay. My other option is to remove the broken glass from the original back plate and stick new glass on minus the heating element

It Certainly Does.

But don't get me started on todays society LOL. I'm not old by any means, but I still have values and respect for other people, and their property, which most of todays younger generation don't seem to have. It's down to parenting, not race, crede, where you live or if you came from a rich or poor family. Parenting is the key. I came from a poor background, and a well known rough area, but my parents had good values which they tought me, then I joined the military for 18 years. Ooooops, See......... You almost got me started.

You can buy the replacement heating element here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEATED-MIRRORS-IN-YOUR-CAR-N...
(£6.50 inc P&P) and then fit the standard scirocco mirror glass.
