Saw a lovely one on Friday at the Harlow/M11 interchange, red with all the family in it. Sounded the absolute nuts!

I've owned this early model Rover SD1 for a numkber of years. It started life in 1978 as a humble 3.5 V8 auto. To give this hound some much-needed bite to match its bark I've progressively been developing it by fitting a new 4.6 Range Rover engine, Crane cam, extensively re-worked Buick 300 heads, Yella Terra roller rockers, Kenne Bell oil pump and Edelbrock 500. It's now got a five speed manual box, 3.45:1 axle and Quaife lsd. To get a good power to weight ratio there's a light fibreglass bonnet, bumpers, hatch, and perspex rear screen, lightweight seats and Minilite alloys. It gets unleashed for some serious exercise on weekends, weather permitting. The rest of the time it leads the life of an outrageously pampered pet.

Great thread chaps. Love to get back there with you one day - had gorgeous standard SE back in 87 and let her go. Picked her up for £1600 cash, with 63k on the clock and only one corporate owner. Matt silver, with self levelling suspension. 3 speed auto. Did the standard 17mpg in all conditions. Big regret. But there we go.

Am trying to get an all rounder who can weld and get Vera running standard, so I can fettle her over time, and maybe an SD1 will join the family one day, so we can have the three formats of RV8 for many years to come.

This is great - been on PH for years and only just found the Rover section!! I'm normally in the Porsche section (own a 993RS) or Aston section (V8 on order).

I've owned a platinum silver/nutmeg 1978 3500 manual for about 5 years. I'm the 2nd owner, bought at 27k miles, now at 37k. A wonderful machine that is ultra reliable and drives virtually as new.

My father has a 1986 TP Vitesse in moonraker (what else...) that he has owned virtually from new. That is his 8th successive SD1 (really!). He worked for a division of BL and was entitled to a new one practically every year. All but one 3500 manuals, some with rather interesting specifications.

Why are these cars so addictive???

Would post some pics if I knew how...

Hi all

I had 3 SD1s....
3500SE 82
Vitesse SP 84 (oops - the dodgey one)
Vitesse SP 84 (the one that got modded a bit)

have a look in my profile (no pics sorry).
Had to sell mine as it wasn't sensible everyday transport and couldn't afford to run the extra car.

Like the look of the site that's been mentioned, see some or all of you there
