Hello all,

I have a 2004 A3 3.2 and recently it had a flat battery after only one day of not being started. Audi Assist came and said that something was draining the battery and said it could be the convenience unit but that it would have to go to the dealer to be certain. The other problem was the driver's window one shot down facility not working, which the Audi chap said was probably linked.

The dealer had the car all day and said they couldn't find any problem with the convenience unit, nor anything else for that matter. Typically, the window performed exactly as it should...

Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, what did it turn out to be?

Firstly, I assume you know your car is really just a Skoda Octavia in a smaller suit ? wink

Now that is cleared up I'll say that (with the Octavia) the battery drain will be the cause of the window one-touch not working. I guess the dealer will have reset this whilst trying to locate the problem and hence, there no longer is a problem.

The central convinience units do suffer with issues, but normally related to locking and door open/closed indicators.

Did your dealer log any fault codes from your car? I guess they diddnt tell you as you've not said. Looking for a fault code is the only way they will have found a fault with the convenience unit, if there was no fault code they would "see" the fault - I dont think there is a fault code that would tie down a battery drain to the unit.

Goochie - thanks for that. The dealer never said anything about fault codes for the Octavia, er, A3 ;-) but being the mechanical airhead I am, how would the one shot down not working drain the battery? At the moment I've been driving it every day to avoid the flat battery - and that's no hardship - but with an upcoming holiday, I don't want to come back to a dead battery again (obviously).

What I meant was that the one-shot window function reverts to "off" when the battery is flat or disconnected, that is not the problem, it is a result of the battery-drain problem.

Ah - sorry. I've misread your post. Curiously, the passenger one shot was fine.

They're getting the car back next week for more investigation. Thank goodness for warranties! smile
