You know if you give Halfords the paint code they can make the correct rattle can up for you?

I found the match was perfect too.
No I didn't know that. I'll be needing a few litters soon as the whole car needs a respray.

If that's your car in the profile photo I have some Aluminium rods and TIG welder if you want to bring it by one weekend. wink

If your name 1275 is an A series engine Mini sills (I've done so many I could do them in my sleep) are easy Metro ones can be problematic as they usually go at the same time as the rest of the floor. Alegro and Maestro ones aren't worth the effort so just patch and go. MG1300 GT ones are fun if you accidently weld through a hydrogas pipe. I was stuck under my 1300GT (1380 turbo) long enough to justify coilovers. hehe

Ha!

If I stick the BL route, I've got a Rover 216GTi in mind hehe

Over weight, understeery and either been thrashed or bodged. At least with my SD3 you know's who's been bodging and thrashing it. wink

Unless you shove the V8 from a Vitesse under the hood, I'm not buying it hehe

Could be done with a Princess gearbox but front wheel drive V8's are generally crap.

What is it about an SD1 powered SD3? You about the fifth person to suggest it. scratchchin

Shouts sleeper? Also, the engine is of the family origin. Would make sense, but you'd need to make it RWD and probably steal most of the running gear and axle etc.

I'd go Jag' I.R.S axle (put together by the guys at Wisbech Engineering) and proper V8 instead of the Rover one. Also I would have to junk the front end and fit a cross member strong enough and basically run either a ladder chassis or space frame the shell to make it strong enough to transmit the torque without twisting.

So it would be a case of understeer in torque steer out for front wheel drive or a complete chassis fabrication with the SD3 shell dropped on top. The amount of floor space the gearbox tunnel would take up means I'd either have to fit a disabled gear box or have very narrow pedals and seats.

I wouldn't have thought so. The Princes has the gearbox in the sump like a mini. Also it's designed for about 150hp in Kimberly 2.6 form so a Rover V8 would tear it to pieces.

You'd probably find it easier to cut out half your floor, fabricate a new transmission tunnel and fit a rear axle from something else. I'd suggest RWD Skyline or 200SX as they can produce big power cheaply. Failing that, keep it in the family with an S2000.

Of course it would be easier to buy the S2000 and run that.

I did think BMW 540 a while ago keeping it in the family (on a different timeline). wink

Surely as the SD3 is massively Honda based looking at the VTEC range would be a better idea.

I'm sure Civic Type R engine and box would be easier (but not easy) to fit and more in keeping with the car. Failing that the 130bhp engine from the 216 or Civic would also go well. Or how about a Rover K Series?

If you want your car to go faster either get the Rover 1.6 out of that VDP you saw in the scrapyard or just fit a hot cam and 4 bike carbs to your existing lump; I'm sure a Honda will take the revs.

Keep it light and leave it FWD. Anything else is a meandering route to the scrappy. Unless you're an automotive genius.

Have you seen my Fiat?

Page one of this thread I suggested a Prelude 2.2 Vtec?

That fell trough and I had to pay over £2,000 for insurance this year due to an extremely exagerated claim from three years ago getting the injury shysters for you treatment. frown

I haven't seen your Fiat. Please tell.

In fairness page 1 was ten months ago and that's when I first read it. Still reckon there is likely to be a Honda Vtec or Rover four cylinder that fits and would make more sense than a V8 in this.

Personally, it would be a VTEC or a T Series turbo. The Rover K is good and light but if you're going to go to the trouble of a swap may as well go for something that can eventually generate big power. 200 bhp is around the sensible limit for a road going K series on a budget. A T series can double that.

A friend of mine told me he had a T16 for sale after trying to fit it to an MGF for two years. Told him it wouldn't work. So I bought an engine loom for a 620ti and waited for a reply email. Three months later I'd given up on the idea and decided to work on the "invisble car" (Alfa/Lancia and Fiat forum) instead.

I'm not a fan of the T16 but they are cheap and Andy Nichols (AN Racing) drinks in the same pub as me. wink

It doesn't have to be Honda or Rover either. I have been tempted towards the KV6 or 3.2 Honda Legend engine but it is lack of budget that is dictating the car stays standard for the time being.
