There's lots of new tests coming into force with the latest MOT checks. Eg, I've just had to remove the HID
lights on my soarer as they will fail my MOT (cos they don't have an associated washer and self-levelling
system)

Check out these links, and you should also note the dates if you have an MOT pending..

Personally i don't like any new rules and laws and more restrictions on our general freedom, they just keep stacking up.

Soon we'll not be able to do anything to our cars and that will be a damn shame.

The dash warning light ruling appears to be fairly specific to airbag/tensioner/brake systems... I was slightly concerned!

Sadly, too many people forget how to behave in a civilised society, by acting in a responsible manner that doesn't offend decent standards of behaviour.
Hence, new rules have to be written into law to protect the majority from the extreme behaviour of the minority.
Always ask the question WHY/WHY/WHY..... until the root cause of the problem is found, and then you have the chance to fix it correctly.
Here endeth the lesson.

Personally i dont see why i have to be blinded on the way home from work so some t**ts have the freedom to show off who has the brightest blue headlights outside Mcdonalds on a friday night.

Idlerich do you not understand why it's the law to have self levelling and washer systems on this sort of headlight? I'm not having a dig, it's a genuine question.

Next you'll be telling us you don't think tail lights are neccessary

But you're happy for everyone else who's not blinding you, and only upgraded to have better night vision, to be punished by the same 'law'.

Surely if they're aligned correctly then they're not going to dazzle anyone, or next you'll be demanding the death sentence for anyone who doesn't switch of their main beam quickly enough for you.

BTW, both my M5s and Z4MC have HIDs. The M5's were aftermarket but have headlight washing and suspension levelling, so would pass the test even if they were fitted with 't**t-blue' bulbs. The Z4MC ones are original, but bounce around a lot more due to the car being so stiff that it doesn't absorb the bumps as well as the M5s.

Seriously I wouldnt bother, there seems to be a massive HID hate on here and anyone even hinting at using them is clearly the devils sporn and should be banned from breathing.

Its so boring to hear about these people who "think" every HID kit fitted to every car in the land is done by a chav and means instant blinding and death for all those who come across them at night!

Heres an idea for some of you haters, do what your supposed to do when driving towards a car at night, do NOT stare at the lights! problem solved.

Yes there are some idiots who have badly adjusted headlights out there, but a high percentage are normal halogens and a badly adjusted headlight is worse than a great majority of HID setups.

All this will do is get HIDs removed for the MOT and then refitted after. Cops have better things to be doing than trying to work out if a car thats just gone past them is HID equiped or not.

I thought the new MOT regs only applied to vehicles registered from 01 Jan 2012 onwards, is MOT not for 4 years and then every 2...?

My E36 weekend toy has an airbag light on as it has an aftermarket steering wheel, bucket seat, 4 point harness etc, do I now have to put the standard stuff in once a year?

Utter bullst!

You clearly don't give a sh-t about not having an airbag, so just remove the bulb! confused

It's a weekend/track car, the harness/seat combo would stop me head butting the wheel I reckon...

The vehicle will also fail if an SRS malfunction light is missing, not working or indicating a fault.

Does this mean that all cars that had an drivers airbag as standard (mid 90s onward) can no longer have an aftermarket steering wheel?

Airbags have a life of 10 years. How many people get them replaced?

Probably start checking next year... Can't have people driving around in smelly old cars, wildly killing baby polar bears.

They don't just die at 10 years old, it's just a manufacturer's interval, like an oil change- and most people don't care about those either!

Lack of airbag is mentioned here too

Supplementary restraints

The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective.

Excellent, i'm delighted to hear it.

So safety systems that protect both the driver and other road users are being inspected. Well there's a turn-up for the books.

The levelling and washer systems for HIDs is a great idea. I've no issue with correctly fitted after market HIDs. Same goes for people who knowingly drive around without the rear doors on family cars being operational - yet they put their children in the back.

Sounds like a whole lot of common sense to me. It's predominantly only the people who leave their cars in a state of dis-repair that complain about these laws.
