I'm 16 I was was wondering about the can't test I would have to take to be able to ride a moped. Over the holidays I was thinking of doing my Cbt for when i go to college but I'm going to turn 17. My question was can you do your cbt at 16 then ride 125cc's at 17 or would you need to completed another cbt?

As long as you've got the provisional motorcycle licence you'll be good to ride 125s with L plates and no pilion with your CBT.

You would be well advised to get a bike licence as soon as possible after your 17th birthday though, regardless. The further training will do you the world of good. Plus 125s are not great frankly.

50cc's are death traps! if you can wait to turn 17 and go directly onto a 125cc id be far happier if i was your dad.

Some of my best memories were being 16 on my little Aprilia rx50

Must've been a dozen of us on anything from an fs1e to a ts50 right upto a brand new rs50. The guys on the faired ones would see an indicated 60mph all while we wore our naff Co 54 bomber jackets, spliffy jeans and kickers boots...ah being a teenager in the 1990s silly

As for your question, yes when you turn 17 you can go straight into a 125 with plates as already said

If I can give one bit of advice from an idiot here that learnt - buy a bit of decent bike kit. You don't need full on power ranger leathers but a dedicated biker textile jacket, gloves and kevlar jeans will go a long way should you take a slide

I did my CBT at 16 and got a Derbi Senda 50cc (turns out after I sold it that the old owner had done something to it and it was more like a 90cc).

At 17 I got a Yamaha YBR 125 which I rode until I passed by test.

Then got a Kawasaki ER6-N which I had restricted for 2 years.

Unfortunately the government has played around with the license route so much, it's not worth doing a bike test until you are 19. Before then you can only get a license for a 125. And you would have to do a full retest at 19 to get a ~48bhp restricted license.

My advise would be do your CBT, and some further training. But don't bother with a license. Redo your CBT just before you are 19 as they are only valid for 2 years and take the A2 test then to get a full license. Bikes are dangerous so the more training you do, the better.

Have a look at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-rou...

Here is a great guide on your license and the type of bikes you can ride on the MCN site.

It really simplifies the bit everyone gets confused about!
