Erm... why?

I’ve ever carried one and nor will I. I have no need to and don’t want it lost. Why have the police made this a “thing”?

“Driver was also advised about the importance of carrying his driving licence. Guess what? Still didn't have his driving licence. #VehicleSeized."

It was only 'advised', so not mandatory.

Probably easier for them to identify the driver correctly if they have some form of photo ID on them. My photo-licence is in my wallet.

No need to go all 'wibble wibble' about it rolleyes

What a clown. He gets warned once (very fair) and does nothing.

I carry my licence when on my motorbike. If only for id in an accident, or after the event..... frown

Awkward at the moment with the photo having expired at the end of August. There's a blanket 11 month extension for everybody from DVLA but still, there'll be officials who don't know.

Why not keep it in your wallet? Surely you take your wallet everywhere?

Makes it easier for the police to confirm yur ID and saves the hassle of having to produce it later, I suppose.

I travel a bit for work within the UK and carry mine in case vehicle problems mean I'd have to hire a car.

Well yes, there is... the requirement under the RTA is to produce it on request at the time, 7 day producer is just a ‘loophole’...

...in a more pragmatic sense, if you’ve got a long, unusual or double barrelled name the DVLA search function is very ‘dumb’ so actually cops can’t always find the record quickly...

Showing your driving documents
If a police officer asks you to, you must be able to show:

your driving licence
a valid insurance certificate
a valid MOT certificate (if your vehicle needs one)
If you don’t have the documents with you at the time, you may be asked to take them to a police station within 7 days.

PLEASE NOTE: LICENCE

Not quite what the Government advice says - the police can ask to see it, & if you decline, may require you to produce it in 7 days.

The issue is the number plate, the newspaper have made it about the licence plate.
My driving licence (or Trwydedd Yrru) is in my wallet, which I usually carry when I drive, but I only make sure I have it if I intend to spend money.

As stated earlier in the thread, RTA 1988 says you must show your licence to a Constable who demands it.
