As a Texan, I am embarassed by the rampant sue-happy nature of the US. Everyone wants to make a quick buck off of every tiny glitch they can find. This Ford thing is just the latest in a disgusting American trend.

IF TVR enter the market I give them 12-18 months before they have to file for insolvency. The cars are fantastic but any quirks will not be tolerated by the Amnericans, they will be pounced on. We'll have people suing for their kids burning their fingers on the ally gearknob as it cooks in the Texan temperatures! People claiming for being blinded by the reflex paintjob glittering in the midday sun! Not forgetting other road users claiming for the TVRs taking their attention of the road and making them crash!!

You can just see the American at the dealership being told 'They All Do that Sir' to half the faults he has reported....... They`ll sue for the stress of that as well.. Saying that though, this country is going the same way........

How can 3.5 million owners be affected by faults on 1.7 million cars? Maybe spouses can sue becuase of the stress of their other half sititng on the hard shoulder? James

When I read the papers in the UK, they are full of equally ridiculous court crap going on in England. And don't forget the US court system is based on the Brit system.

Nowhere near as bad. US law suits are a global joke - even the US knows it's a problem that has spiralled out of control.

Its a bit of an old wive's tale that things are getting as bad here as they are in US. The thing that makes America exceptional is punative damages (ie a court can take, say, a year's profits from a company to punish them - the only problem being, as individuals usually recieve the damages, payouts can excessivly reward litigants, encouraging more cases) There are no plans to introduce similar awards in the UK

What about the "no result no fee" style of lawyer ? Isn't this a u.s.trend that's catching on over here? By the way this website is damaging my eyesite - you'll be hearing from my lawyer (unless a baseball cap is in the post)

Not entirely true. I've got some stuff from an insurance company which I'll publish shortly, highlighting how the personal injury type claims are hiking our premiums.

The No win No Fee people will only take on a claim that they think will earn about 1400 quid or so, cause that is their cut of the cake. So if you win 1500 quid or so, you make a whole 100 pounds for your efforts.... I have been told that it is these types of companies that are forcing up the premiums for insurance as well, the b****rds.. cause it is the insurance companies that have to pay the costs of defending them, and in fact they often don`t contest the claim as it would cost them more, so they pay out, and guess how they recoup that loss...
