Thanks for the support!
For the record, this was the statement on the engine from the report:
'Engine bay : Overall the engine bay and engine are very clean. There were no water or major engine oil leaks detected. The engine was started from stone cold, it fired up easily, but did initially struggle to idle without holding the throttle open slightly. There were no abnormal noises coming from the engine internals, but I feel that the engine definitely requires a full valve clearance service.'
Then the disclaimer:
'There may be mechanical issues that develop as soon as the car starts being used and I would recommend for the car to have a full check over and valve clearance service before proper road use.'
I followed the advice to the letter.... now after one carefully driven, admittedly over 200 mile journey, I have a car with a rough running, noisy engine, leaking oil waiting at a garage.
Still no warranty paperwork either!

Btw - Andy will be great to see you at Kimbolton! I really hope the legs are mending correctly.
Hi AlexWell we will not meet at Kimbolton. It's a casualty of the weather! They have cancelled it.
The next show I am doing is in September at the Bishop Stortford Motor Show held at St Marys School on the 15th

At least two finger followers shot - on a 970 mile engine? Is that possible? Start to doubt the whole history. Even madder!
Informed seller, await response.
Not sure if that poss but tbh I did expect the engine to be shot. Its been for sale for 3 or 4 years. Its been left to let the oil drain south and then started every now and again. Hmm seems like the worst thing for a S6.At least two finger followers shot - on a 970 mile engine? Is that possible? Start to doubt the whole history. Even madder!

Surely you just demand money back?
I dont understand the inspection results ie engine sounds fine just needs tappet service (depsite no service for 10 yrs).

Sadly yes it is. I had the same problem on my Tuscan when it was new. Good luck with getting it all sorted. At least two finger followers shot - on a 970 mile engine? Is that possible? Start to doubt the whole history. Even madder!

I'm pretty sure that the garage has a 6 month obligation to make sure the car is in good working order, regardless of warranty.
The reason I know this is, I work for a car company that sells very nice 2-5 yr old audis. I once did a deal for a massively reduced price as the person buying it stated he didn't want a warranty, months later he rung up saying there was a problem with the fuel pump or something about £700 to fix. My boss (the owner) pointed out it stated clearly on the receipt no warranty given but when we researched he had as bang to rights. We are trading standards approved so not sure if that makes a difference, turns out tho he was a solicitor and obviously new that when he negotiated. We learnt from that.
Maybe try trading standards.

Sorry to hear. At least two finger followers shot - on a 970 mile engine? Is that possible? Start to doubt the whole history. Even madder!

It is plausible. My T350 had a sweet engine but one that had originally detonated at less than 1,500 miles.
I don't think that was uncommon.

Hope you get it sorted, mine is with a happy new owner today, miss it already
Can you believe it:
(a) said dealer didn't actually take out the warranty until 8 days after I bought the car (after having told me it was in place on collection)
(b) as of today the warranty company haven't recieved payment so haven't issued the paperwork to me
So, the car isn't covered by any warranty as it was taken out after the fault was found, even if it had been covered.
Now have solicitors involved and guiding me through the process to both fix the car and cover their costs and warranty etc. if not paid up. Testing my patience to say the least!

Was the vehicle not looked over by a 'specialist' before you parted with any cash?
HiIt was and a the relevant part of the report has been posted up!
The fault is a problem had by many S6 cars.
The problem is the dealer is a bit of a bd and a con-man. He's now done two off us and I am also sending in the dogs!

Don't you hate it though.
If you pay top money for a top car (which fundamentally this one still is), you expect top service.
The only other time this happened to me was on a relativly cheap purchase, also with a shot engine. Ended up with the dealer having his personal assets and bank accounts frozen - he soon paid up for the repair costs plus a large legal bill (larger than the repair costs) then!

The only way you can get out of a warranty is to sell as scrap, or a trade sale to another trader. I know this as an ex car trader and anyone remember Vauxhall red top porous heads? The reason I know this is, I work for a car company that sells very nice 2-5 yr old audis. The general public lie much harder than the traders generally do, speaking from experience of the stuff they used to trade in on me.
It seemed to be a sport to get one over the nasty trader, Cracked heads, blown head gaskets, dodgy brakes, you name it i had em try it.
I would never have attempted to sell cars in that condition.
I would say this trader has to put this one right regardless of what he sold it for, unless it was sold as trade/scrap.
Get a ball park from TVR Power/ whomever and ask the trader if he is happy to foot the bill, i think he has the right to put it right rather than refund.
Make sure he is happy where you take it, if you dont and you go off your own bat, you exempt him from any blame because it was non consensual, then you are on your own...
I might be talking poppycock, but this was back in the day when i was duckin an a divin! HTH
