What have you done to your car today......
Discussion
Removed gearbox. Looked at diff. Swore at diff. Decided to leave it for another day. Got the angle grinder with wire brush out and started cleaning up the chassis. Most of mine is looking alright but around the diff could do with freshening up. Looks like the rear wishbones have been done in the past but they're going to have to come off to do a proper job.
Driving at dusk - turned lights on and nothing! Straight home.
Spent ages going through fuses and the little black box that threw up some other surprises (later pics).
Could not work it out and finally thought about the Alu knob in the car - I fiddled with the back and attempted to push the connectors on a little more and hey presto the lights came on! I remembered that the day before the heater control knob plate had become loose and was dangling from the right side. I don't know why that was so but I pushed it back and reaching through the back with the fingers pushed the metal extensions as far back as possible - in doing so I must have dislodged a connector at the back of the alu light knob! Relief!
However, my wires into the black "dim" control box in the boot have been bridged a little........
The original connector was also burnt ..........
The wire has been extended and added directly to the box internals. I did not probe further as no time but interesting how/ why someone else has done this and not just added a new connector.

The light set-up for the Cerb is interesting. The control box supplied the full power to the headlights, which slowly burns the connector, hence why some wires have been soldered direct to the PCB to avoid burning a 2nd connector. A lot of Cerbs, mine included, are modified to use the original wiring to switch a relay fitted in the front N/S wing which switches a feed direct from the battery to the lights. This obviously lessens the load on the original control box and wiring, and tends to result in brighter lights due to the shorter wiring giving less of a voltage drop.
Yesterday but I thrashed it round Brands Hatch for the day:-)
Car ran faultlessly all day, a few people commented on the "unique noise" it made saying it sounded great. I am using the straight through decat sports pipes from ACT and their quiet back box (99db) but it is the Quaif semi straight gear set whine added in that people mentioned.
A great day out in a car that punches so for above others expectations we had a ball together:-)

In the process of replacing my worn rear shocks/ springs with sparkly new Gaz Gold units (having already done the fronts). I couldn’t just attach them to the sorry looking wishbones and hubs. So.....they all had to come off. The two uppermost rear bolts on both top wishbones swere “stuck” and having managed to free the near side I had to cut the bolt off on the offside. Then the week wait for a new bush and removing the old one was another issue. I will replace the other bushes at some point in the future just not now. Then I could not get the handbrake cable off the brake shoe asembly! What I thought was a simple removal job has really dragged on.
3 weeks later I have now removed, ground, sealed, primed and painted them all I now need to put them back on. The attachments are the finished items, I initially went to spray them yellow but the spray process was hassle compared to just painting them. I used my stock of enamel rust guard grey that does not look too bad but just not the bright colour I was after.
I cannot wait to just “cruise” again with the knowledge that all of this has been done - a real shame that non of it will be seen by anybody else!!

I strongly recommend that you change the bushes
I know it's not easy, I took my wishbones and bushes to a trusted indie to fit them
Along with shocks and tracking the bushes are key to making the car feel stable
New bushes remove any skittishness that may be present, and give you so much more confidence in the car

Finally got my Whirlwind kit fitted between much duff weather. Seems to idle slightly lower and certainly more evenly
with the new chip fitted. This has the cold mod on it too which was a nice surprise. Must get onto Joolz and get it
booked in for fettling.
The rocker cover bolt heads are a bit sad looking. Has anyone used anything nice (ie Cheap!!) with a little bling,
stainless/anodised etc and if so from where?
Cheers

Hi
Have a look at this post, you will see a picture I uploaded but the next one down by TwinKam is much better. You will see a D shaped opening between the oil pump and water pump. As I understand it if you see water weaping from this it's a sign that the seals are starting to wear.

Battery brain gave up after over 5 years.

Looking forward to a couple of nice euro road trips this summer.
Road trip I hear you say:-)Ordered another one.

In the process of arranging one with mates to the Italian GP, my wife who hates the Cerbera suggested to spend a week touring the Cornish coast in it in August and she also suggested taking it to Unst in Shetland for a midnight BBQ on the longest day of the year.
Not sure what has come over her but 2018 looks to be a very good Cerbera year:-)
