Evening all,

My car has developed a judder when moving off from standstill. It only happens when the car is has been running for a while and I'm assuming that the heat from the engine is softening what are probably knackered mounts and exacerbating the problem.

Do you think this is likely? If so, can you confirm the number required? I'm assuming it's Engine x 2 and Gearbox x 2

Many thanks

Ian

Are you sure it's not clutch judder? If you pull away with raised revs does it still judder?

With raised revs the judder is less pronounced but still there. Like I said when cold the car is as smooth as you like.

I imagine it's unlikely to be the mounts, but there is absolutely no harm in trying all the cheapest potential solutions first.

If you do end up taking the box off because of clutch issues, make sure you replace the clutch pilot bearing (or spigot bearing as TVR call it), they only cost a fiver. When mine let go it cost me at least £2k.

Afternoon all,

I've changed three of the four mounts so far. The drivers side engine mount is beating me at the minute. Everything is loose but I'm struggling to get enough clearance to unscrew the mount. What am I missing? Do I have to remove the fabricated bracket that is bolted to the chassis rail?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I was hoping to be out enjoying this great weather.............

Cheers

It is possible that the steering shaft is the problem.

If you do loosen the UJs to remove it bear in mind that it is almost impossible to tighten them sufficiently to remove all play. I ending up replacing the bolts for 12.9 versions and then using stupid amounts of torque.

Yeah the steering shaft is the culprit. I'm half tempted to simply cut the thread on the rubber mount to get it out and cut a similar length off the new one to allow it to fit. Seems a bit crude though so I'm going to wrestle with the fabricated bracket instead. At least that means I can take some rust prevention measures in this area whilst I'm at it.
