I'd bleed the clutch fluid as a starter.

Getting close to the top is quite the opposite of what you get with hot fluid. You will need new plates.
Thanks guys - reply much appreciated

No harm in bleeding the clutch fluid to start (thanks Byker28i) and if I need new plates any recommendations on the best place to go for that?

Guessing as per post above for refurb with Kevlar plates by CG motorsport would be a good way to go - car is in the garage for Winter so might be able to get the clutch removed and sent off in the New Year...
