Right, I'm just trying to time my AJP up.. I've had some advice from some very kind specialists and people but I am not 100% confident, (due to a previous timing issue with an engine years ago laugh ), and don't want to badger them for advice they charge for..

I've got the bottom end set at 37.5° past No.1 TDC - 1/2 way between 1&2 TDC? (clockwise from the front of the engine), cams are in a safe position (1&8 on overlap - roughly as per the diagram in the build manual). No.2 piston is near the bottom of it's stroke, No.1 near the top (valves on overlap).

TDC on No.1 is the horizontal line.. Checked before the heads went on.

Is this correct before I try and progress?

How are you tensioning the chain?

Since the WSM says turn crank anticlockwise, you need to make sure there is no slack in the chain at all

Tensioner in place held manually with a lever bar.. I don't have a dummy tensioner or timing case.

I've been pondering this a fair bit.. I think my issue is trying to follow instruction rather than work it out myself.. As what I've done with regards to the bottom end doesn't add up to me..

To set the bottom end I think I needed to start at No.2 TDC and come forward (clockwise from the front), 37.5 degrees (75 degree V8), so 1/2 way between No.2 and No.1 TDC... Then progress with the timing procedure.

Of all the 4500 thousand posts on PH that I made this is probably the only one of any real value
