TVR parts supply the connector and harness, but how do you fit it?

Can the harness be replaced from withing the cabin, or can it only be done with the gearbox removed?

The only 2 wires I can see near gear knob are the 2 wires going to the handbrake lever. Nothing obvious that I can tell to/from gear knob.

When I had my gearbox out and I damaged the plug I couldn't find the other end. I ended up soldiering it in.

The connector is behind the dash and can be accessed by removing the bit of trim under the dash that contains the immobiliser socket, ignition switch and ashtray. With that out if the way you'll also see the hole for the wires to drop into the transmission tunnel. That's how they built mine anyway!

I'd have thought it was doable without removing the gearbox.

I think this may help you. You can see how it goes through the tunnel with the connector block joining up to the loom
