I think that is more a bit of an old wives tale tbh..

Press cars were rolling roaded and made factory figures. I think it is more the optimistic factory dyno inflating figures..

I guess thats a good thing as the 4.2's fitted with a 4.5 bottom end make about 380bhp when mapped, but a good 4.5 mapped with all the knowledge now (whirlwind etc) makes 400-420bhp.

The thing is, the Cerbera didn't just beat the cars by a little, it beat them by a lot. We know looking at fighting torque that you need some pretty good machinery to beat the Cerbera and looking over the results that launch technique made more difference than bhp.

So would a few more bhp from the factory, make that much difference over the clarkson run. The launches look similar from all cars.
I think it's just a quick car.

Now thats not to say it wouldn't be beat by even todays hot hatches, but at the time I'd say that was valid.

My 4.5 bottom end with 4.2 top end makes 428bhp..

If you are doing some Blasts and speed trials I'll chuck my LS in the ring for some comparisons. I'm just refurbing the shocks, refreshing the gearbox and making a new exhaust, plan is to drag it out a bit more this year!

EVO wrote about it quite recently that they knew the cars we knobbled. If the factory knew the cars were to be rolling roaded then I expect they behaved - the press do have to tell the factories what they are going to do and the factories are often quite precise as to what can and cannot be done or they won't get another car in the future.

627@7029rpm, it’s the revs now with bigger heads and a cam specced to go with ITB’s it carries on, it was still making 611@7500, didn’t want to rev it further, but at a speed event could be useful.

That video.! The Ajp is that good at wide open throttle and that gap was only going to get bigger and its repeatable.!

Its a race engine that sounds quite agricultural at idle.
It has something to do with the with the flat plane geometry v angle and offset that makes it a very special beast in the way it fires the cylinders it runs like 2 4 cyl engines rather than 1 v8. With this layout the waste spark is not wasted it sets up pulses in the exhaust that takes the scavenging to a next level and makes for a very efficient air pump at wot and has no use for a turbo or multi valve or vvt
It was referred to at the time as the big bang engine and was very hush hush...

We repeated it a good few years ago with modern cars and quite a lot of tuned up stuff and the Cerbera still held up OK. Things have moved on, I remember the 4wd Lambos were incredible at launching and it was very much about the launch. Fluff that and it was a long way back.

I took on a Monaro that was supercharged, launch control, traction control, was said to have 550bhp. That launched well, I caught him by second gear and by the time I was in third there was no way it was coming back.

Yeah that was an LS engined one though, its fitted with a Harrop 112 supercharger and made 580bhp in a 1200Kg car
