Sorry Team - It's me again.

I started Steppin' Out recently asking for help for connecting the Alternator, Starter Motor and Big Fuse and was inundated with help.

Having now worked out the heavy-duty side, I have found a light weight cable which has The Yellow Label' Alternator on it.
Now, amazingly, I put on a label of my own, whilst I was dismantling, on which I wrote 'Alternator to Big Fuse'.

This raises several interesting aspects:
1) Can't begin to believe how I worked out that it was due to go to the Alternator as the cable just disappears into part of the loom.
2) If I trust myself and do connect it to the Big Fuse, which side should I be connecting it to ? Alternator Side or Starter Motor side ?

Many thanks to you all, once again, for putting up with my relentless dullisms.

Ta !

PJ

There should be a small cable attached to the middle terminal on the alternator for the ECU to sense the voltage and light the charge warning light if it's not charging. I think hats what you're describing.

Wiring section of the manual lists, shows the engine connector pin5 5 as a brown/yellow lead to the alternator

http://tvr-cerbera.co.uk/files/WorkshopManual/LowR...

Then I've got this which also shows it.

So a quick look at my alternator - apart from the big fat current carrying wire, there's the smaller wire connects to another terminal the black wire looping in

Can't quite see clearly as the fuel rails in the way

As above image

2 Wire alternator....

Heavy gauge Positive

Light gauge Battery Warning Light

Found here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Nothing to worry about if you were to connect anything up incorrectly......

Shorting the positive to earth will blow the main fuse

Connecting warning light cable to a positive will illuminate the battery warning light when ignition is off and it will go off when ignition is switched on

Connecting warning light cable to an earth will illuminate the battery warning light when ignition is switched on and it won't go off when running the alternator

You are very lucky to have any legible markings on the yellow sleeves

There's virtually nothing left on any of mine

I had the brilliant idea of putting some paper labels on the lambda sensor connectors so I could tell left from right, but I cleverly used heat sensitive labels that have turned completely black

Reminds me of a guy once (trainee at the dealership, but in the body shop not workshop thankfully) who labelled up a couple of wires in a cerbera engine bay thus :

L for Left side
O for Other side

You're welcome thumbup

I'm part of a team who 'man' the technical support line at work.
