Thanks! They’re Weds Sport TC 105X, 8x17 ET32 front and 9.5x18 ET45 rear - they fit perfectly I’m relieved to say smile

ET33 spider (so heavy I couldn’t hold it out with one arm and photograph the scales hehe)

Front wheel:

They are bloody lovely, and a serious saving in unsprung weight!

Anyone know how heavy the RL7s are?

I bet that drives considerably better on those! Great work!

Not as light as the legend.. They are about 11kg iirc. Still significantly lighter and stronger than Spiders.

Thanks for the reply Jhonno, I love the design of the RL7, however it's good to know that a change of wheel can be so beneficial, especially when tyres become harder to source in 17".

Just noticed the sizes, any reason you've decided on 17 front and 18 rear?

I’ve always thought 18 was too large for the front, they look great of course, but the clearance was marginal and 17 is a better fit IMO.

Having said that, I couldn't see any 40 profile 17s in 225 so the front tyres look a bit balloony and the clearance is only marginally better than 40 profile 18.

Yes, I have 225/45/17 on the front of mine, 245/45/17 rear.

It's a lovely looking wheel you have, I hope the setup works well for you smile

Thanks, yes the difference is even better than I’d hoped as I pondered the subject during the 3 months they took to be made and delivered from Japan. If the leaden spiders are a 10 on the “crashiness over bumpy road” scale and an Audi A3 is 0, these are a 3 or 4. If that makes sense.

Cheers! I can now go to 275 rear. evil

The tyre fitters did a test fit sans tyres and there was loads of clearance - 9.5 ET45 is about the same as 8.5 ET33 on the outside rim and there is plenty of room inboard. Probably 10” ET45 would fit well also (with possible arch rub depending on camber and height)

Also the 17 fronts have good breathing room with 330mm discs.

To finalize this topic:
On the end I decided for some Enkei wheels PF-09 in 8" front and 9" rear, offset +35 both. Additional wheel spacers of 5mm. Colour is Dark Silver. Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in 225/45 front and 255/40 rear.

Due to the nice wheather this year redface I haven't had too many chances yet to test my combination but for the moment I'm very confident with my choices. The wheels look perfect to me and the tyres are really good. smile

I bought the wheels on ebay from user "powerweb_us" directly from Japan. It took 1,5 weeks til they arrived at my home via UPS - unbelievable fast. At least much faster then parts from the UK at the moment. wink

Next challenge is to find out what the TUEV is thinking about the wheels. rolleyes

Thanks to all who commented here. smile

@GermanCerb - love the look of your car. With the wheel setup you’ve gone for, do you get any rubbing in the arches or any other issues at all?

Not on the front but on the rear I had to screw up the suspension 2 times. With a loaded boot it was rubbing sometimes on some deaper corrugations (I hope the word is correct). Probably I could also remove the spacers.

Good morning - @GermanCerb - did you have to use spigot rings to fit the wheels to the hub or are the Enkei's the same center bore as the Spiders?
Vielen Dank im voraus

No, the diameter is bigger and you don't really need adapter rings. Centering via the screws is good enough.

Quick resurrection.

I'm getting my wheels refurbished soon, just planning on if I need to replace tyres at the same time

Where are we on recommended tyre sizes for RLs's now. Is the advice still to go for 255/40 x 17 for the rear and 225/45 x 17 for the front?
I currently still have the Eagle F1's at 255/40x17 rear and 235/40x17 front - but these are no longer available.

Weirdly Asda seem cheap for tyres -
£80 each for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 225/45R17 91Y
£126 each for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 255/40R17 94Y
£30 delivery charge for mail order

I would say, yes that's the best combination in 17". Especially when you try to find similar tyres for front and rear.
And I'm still voting for Michelin PS4 - perfect tyre in my opinion when you are not doing track days only. wink
