What's the prevailing wisdom amongst those that have done body-offs? Bearing in mind the squeeze/twist upon refitting, but also the newer materials now available.
1. Rivet heat-reflective mats to the inside of the tunnel (as per OE).
2. Drape a tailored 'blanket' over the backbone of the chassis.
3. As 1 or 2 but with modern embossed malleable sheets. Inside or outside the chassis?
4. Other.
Appreciate your enlightened advice!

I think most just renew the mat..

I'd definitely look into a new alternative though! I am sure there is a better solution 25yrs later..

I saw a pic of one somewhere (but can't find it now rolleyes ) ...might have been yours? ...or possibly on a Chimera, but it looked a great idea.
Did you find one 'off the shelf', or have it made to your pattern? Did you secure it to the chassis, or does it just stay put due to its 'innate snugness'? (like my clothes laugh)

I used some Self Adhesive Thermal Acoustic Radiant Insulation for the tunnel, and DEI HEAT SCREEN from https://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ for the engine bay.

New mats from Chimaera Parts Online around the chassis and in the engine bay plus self-adhesive heat protection on the body inside the tunnel. This stuff is thin so no problem with clearance between chassis and body.

Mine was a combination of new matting, gold tape on the chassis and a ceramic coating on the manifolds.

I got a Chimera one and modified it.

I used the kit from chimaera parts, good quality and service. You can make your own but use a good quality brand and not a cheap eBay special because once its on its gonna be a buggar too replace.

But be sure to check which bulkhead design you have as the one from chimaera parts didn't fit my type

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.
I wasn't aware that ChimeraPartsOnline did Cerbera parts... laugh
I have in mind to make my own one-piece chassis 'blanket', but will probably buy their bulkhead reflector as it's quite a complex 3D shape. Mine looks exactly like theirs, but I will ask the question, thanks for the heads-up.

If yours is like this one (smooth type) then this is the one that chimaera parts do.

Rik. Christian, 7TVR used a gold foil blanket over the Bell housing and gearbox in his LS Engined Griff. I believe that worked very well.

When I had all the carpets out of my chim, I used sound deadening and heat shield on the inside. I also put some self-adhesive insulated foil backed material on the inside of the transmission tunnel when I had the engine and box out. The difference was amazing, amazingly pretty much no difference at all! I was very disappointed.

I believe the Gold foil duvet is the way to go.

Thanks Paul,
That is exactly the sort of thing I've been looking for, but still not the one I've previously seen pics of.
I have a good local upholsterer who has already made me new inner wing reflectors (this cloth from Raceparts)

so I will ask him about 'running-up' a chassis blanket.
My only reservation is in securing it at the lower edges, as I have a morbid hated of plastic zip-ties... hurllaugh
But the alternative, lining the tunnel as per OE, involves tens of rivets into the tub which I don't much like either! (I know, First World problems!)
Do you have more pics/ a link to Simon's build?
Cheers,
Rik

rofl proper funny.

But the blanket idea looks great.
I noticed with my 70,000 mile Chim much of the underside of the body where this would sit was remarkably dry and only really dust covered so had never received much water in this area from road driving so this should indeed last a long time.

Doing the Chassis rails as well to avoid heat damage from the exhaust is a very good idea

Has anyone who has made a decent job of insulating they cerb really noticed a significant improvement?

When I did my 5.5 chim, The improvement was negligible. I had spent a small fortune on Dynamat and other materials.

The sound insulation I fitted as well made next to bugger all difference!
