I decatted for heat reasons, but it does add 8-10db of noise, which I mitigated with a ACT quiet system. 2.5" system with additional silencing in the center pipes and tailpipes - hum 13 years old now...

Interesting.

I fitted a cat when I built my exhaust, partly to stay legal (in Aus removing emissions gear = unroadworthy) but also to try and keep the noise down.

And the heat keeps the boot dry smile

Yeah, technically decat is unroadworthy here too..

It is heat, they heat the gearbox up massively. Also, the OE cats are a restriction. Even an aftermarket Sports one is tbh, but perhaps running 2x 2.5" cats would be OK.

Really I should be running 2x 2.5" pipes.. My manifolds are 2.25", but I have a bit of a mix atm, I now have 2.25" link pipe and centre section, to a 2.1" rear section. I need to redo the rear section at least.

the ferarri 458 Speciale is supposed to have 133 hp/liter and that's a road engine. It probably has trick cam timing and intakes etc but come on .. even most good sp6 engines are a good 40-50 shy of that.
in all fairness I doubt the SP6 development budget would make any impression on the 458 engine's budget

It's worth bearing in mind that the 458 was used for the Ferrari Challenge, and the tyre cost for a season was more than a Str8Six Cerb costs now
agreed on the budget, but the point remains that the sp6 seems to flatly refuse to give a good specific power output even in race trim, but the fezza can do it in road trim. Even allowing for mega budgets that's a difficult one to understand. Hp is airflow, engine designers have pretty much understood since the dawn of performance development what it takes to shift air.
Stick it on powers rolling road - you’ll see 25% :-)

Mine was all because of the heat. In the summer they heat up the cabin, which was resolved with extra heat shielding, but the gearbox and especially gearstick got too hot to touch, so I figured it wasn't doing it any good. They've been out for most of the time I've owned the car

I have relatively standard heat shielding but run ceramic coated ACT manifolds with no noticeable heat gains in the car or gearstick issues.
