TVR auctions the last Cerbera

Iconic brutish TVR reaches end of the line

The last Cerbera
The last Cerbera
The last Cerbera live online auction was launched yesterday, 24 July 2006.

As TVR announced a few weeks ago, one of the great icons of the British automotive industry, the TVR Cerbera 4.5 is making a one-off comeback in a live online auction of the last-ever example of the car. The auction runs until 31 August 2006. Proceeds in excess of the reserve price will be donated to a charity -- we don't know which yet.

The TVR Cerbera is a car with a dual role: on the one hand it's an extremely competent 2+2 grand tourer that can be used on any journey, through towns or across countries; on the other hand, it boasts the break-neck performance for which it's become both famous and feared. TVR's own 4.5 litre AJPV8 rockets the lightweight Cerbera from naught to 60 mph in under four seconds, and is one of the most revered sports car engines.

It has become an iconic British sports car, one that obliterated its competition when it was launched and for many years thereafter, and one whose shape has stood the test of time.

The last Cerbera was commissioned and specified personally by TVR's owner and chairman, bringing the car out of retirement for one last time in TVR's true tradition of producing one-off 'specials'. This is his homage to the beautiful but brutish British sports car.

All registrants will gain access to the live online auction, either to simply watch or to bid, and will receive regular e-mail updates, a full-colour 40-page catalogue and an A2 poster, all commemorating this special event and celebrating this very special British sports car.

It does look good. Over 10 years on, it still has more road presence than just about anything else we encounter on a day to day basis.

Its been said before, but well done TVR, and thanks... for the Cerbera!

Wonderful, magnificent, fabulous machine. One of the all time great car shapes and an extraordinary experience to travel in.

Many may not agree, but more modern TVRs like the Tuscan are just a bit too 'look at me' for my taste. Cerbera never needed flip paint or outrageous body extensions to look good, it just needed 18-inch anthracite wheels - and a loud exhaust to pop and bang on the overrun.

Such a shame it's gone.

Cerbies and Chims made TVR what they are today. Two great cars, good value for the money and both with a nice kick in the arse when you put your foot down. (not to mention the wonderful growl from the V8 engines !)

Too bad TVR has lost their way .... They still make some nice cars, but not one that I would want.

Indeed does look good. I wonder how much it will go for?

Still, the blurb about being able to drive it around town does'nt wash with me.

Edit - Jesus - just got excited looking at the website as it mentions that you get a special brochure if you register even just to watch the auction. There i was quickly tapping in my details, then the section appears which asks for card details, in order for TVR to collect the £10 registration fee No thank you!

Shame you can't register if your credit card has a start date in 2006

Was going to email the factory but thought I may as well give them a quick
call. "Oooh, I don't know anything about that! They're all at the motorshow
you see?"

Got to love 'em!

Card details are putting me off, this time next week I could own numerous electrical appliances, delivery address Romania - how else could we pay the fee? or is the site secure?

i just went to register too and saw that £10 fee. very cheeky!
shame really as i would love that commeorative brochure, i collect things like that and it would look great alongside my Millenium Ferrari annual. the poster would look great too.
i don't think there will be another GT/Supercar like the Cerbera, it was IMO one of the all time greats. it looked gorgeous, went like stink and you could use the back seats (i've seen kids as old as 11 climb in the back of a Cerb) which is a lot more than could be said for most other so called 2+2's!
i hope they don't stop using that AJP speed 8 motor, IMO that is one of the all time great road engines.

I've not really known about TVR's that long but it was the Cerbera that made me fall in love with the brand!

I love that car and if I had the money it would be the first car I'd buy.

Bidders – Credit card problem has now been fixed, we can now enter details for cards that begin in 2006. Also totally safe to enter card details due to the 128-bit encrypted server – I’ve registered, the car will be mine, anyone interested in a 05 Tuscan?

Will this one come with the standard guaranteed engine rebuild?

he, he, he...

Great car. You're right. Never needed the flash wheels and nutty paint. Best sounding car around.

Just because the connection to the web server is secure does NOT mean they are held securely on the other end, or even communicated to the bank securely.
