You don't say which way it goes, but I assume they found bigger is worse? I'm not sure whether it's got to do with the tyre itself deforming nicely (higher profile), or differing angular inertia, but a friend of mine who does a lot of drag racing gets almost a seconds difference between 18" and 15" wheels - smaller is better.
