Just reading this thread reminds me the R8 is now over 10 years old...! i remember taking delivery of one of the very first UK cars, but couldn't resist excepting an offer of £10K over list for it.. make hay while the Sun shines..!

Have spent most of today thrashing the spuds off my v8. Just do it I say! Awesome cars. Get one with a proper exhaust and enjoy!

I need to go and drive a V10 with a standard exhaust, and see what it's like. I know the Cayman was night and day when the Carnewal was added!

I've heard so many comments since owning the R8 from people that they think they are "bland", or that they dont do anything for them, i can only assume they've been driven in one that was stock exhaust, or wasnt driven hard particularly. ok its not lairy tail happy with everything enabled, but its certainly a proper drivers car, and i'm loving heel/toe and the general noise it makes, plus the overtaking grunt is instant for country lanes. i'd happily trade up to a V10, albeit i think i prefer the look of the earlier side blades than the split items on the later car. The other positive as such is the friendly /enthusiastic response it seems to generate, from waves/thumbs up etc to people taking pics!

Had a drive in a R8 V10 about a month ago and absolutely loved it. So much so I promptly sold my 991 c2s and placed a deposit in a gen 1 V10 plus.

In my opinion these cars are one of the best kept secrets in motoring.

I think the 911 is a fantastic drivers car, and theres nothing handles like one... however as a weekend toy I think an R8 v10 + looks much more special and envokes much more of a reaction on the road. Not to mention significantly quicker. They do slide/move around a bit when its wet too biggrindriving

Never been mad for the R8 looks but it's a better sports car than a regular 911 although maybe not as good as a GT3.
Neither are what i call a supercar personally

personally i'm unsure myself, in performance terms the V8 R8 is fast, but not supercar fast. the V10 /Plus i think is supercar fast and should be classed in the same league realistically.

one thing i do know, the R8 V8 is certainly a better drive overall than my 911 (993) which was in itself a lovely quick well sorted car.

I've just test driven the Alfa QF and that is slightly quicker than my R8, has a nice carbon interior, and sounded fabulous, i'd have one in a heartbeat if it wasnt worrying the bejesus out of me about chucking £20k away in year one perhaps! with the R8 i know i wont be losing much money! here she is mmmmmmm

Mine is extended black leather, carbon blades, carbon interior, bang olufson stereo etc etc. Ex Audi demo car and had 17k worth of extras with the sepang blue and rims etc . Its a really special car i think when you consider what else you can buy circa £50k these days.

Given that the R8 Plus won the Supercar shoot-out at Goodwood the other weekend, I would say that very much makes it one.

I wouldn't be surprised to see well-tended V10 manuals holding their value nicely, or maybe even edging upwards.

A lot of car for £50k and I wouldn't be worried at that price point but I just don't see them at £100k +

Stick a personal plate on one and it can look 5 years newer to the untrained eye. Would probably take a V10plus over a Ferrari 360/F430

No supercars unfortunately, over the past 8 years I've had the following,

boring stuff,
S3
B8 RS4
500 Abarth
997 c2
Z3m coupe (still have)
991 c2s

The 991 was a quick car so hopefully the R8+ shouldn't be too much of a handful.

991 has sublime handling... and is a real drivers car.
But speed wise the r8 is just so much more, and the engine is so much more of an event...
Its true supercar pace with a fantastic gearbox.

I will be really interested to read your feedback with the car. Sure its less subtle than a 911 but Im sure you'll create many happy memories

I bought on a private sale 2008 20,000 miles V8 for £44k, dealers were selling for £52k in Oct 2017.

Ex demo spec so circa £100,000 when new.

Over the previous year I owned a Ferrari F430 6,000 miles and a limited edition Aston Martin N400 Vantage.

The R8 beats the Aston on quality, insurance and maintenance costs

R8 beats the Ferrari on everyday driving, insurance and maintenance costs.

The R8 will gain in value in the next couple of years in my opinion, ensure full Audi Service History, its half the cost of the other two, and they are still doing product enhancements for no cost to me!
