Ferrari v12 running costs

Having just bought a 3 year old 612, the big bill is the warranty. £5k for power cube or £3k for the power warranty but I've budgeted for this anyway. Is that right that the power cube warranty only goes up until the car is five years old?
To the op, I've come from racing over a few seasons and I've had a few sports focused cars, radical sr3, f355,360 spider 996 c2, 996 gt2, 997 c2s amongst others and although I've not had a maser yet I can tell you that the 612 is a special car with very good handling for the size of the thing and you can have a bit of fun in it when you turn off cst as it always is in my car and it goes round corners very well indeed as I've seen some corner speeds I've not seen since my gt2 (not as quick as that though) and the noise which in my opinion is 30% of the experience just there is very satisfying. Mine is a 2009 hgts car on 20" challenge rims and the only thing I wish I had was the carbon brakes but I wasn't prepared to wait for one to come up at the right money. I tried the one to one at dick Lovett Swindon and wasn't blown away by the glass roof, don't get me wrong it is bloody good and gives the cabin a nice atmosphere but not really worth £10-15k extra IMO. I would pay extra for carbons but I had a nice deal on the one I bought. Seat room wise I had my 20 stone 6"4 mate in front and me 15 stone 6"0 in the back and could have driven for an hour or so no problem so people who say there is no room haven't sorted the seat position correctly. You do have to raise the forward seat and play about a little but 2 mins max. Children no problem at all.
The interior leather and cabin in my car seem a fair bit better than the 2004-6 cars I was looking at when I almost bought one in 2010 and I'm very happy I waited for a later car. The f1 with improved software is just so much better than the 2005 m6 I just sold and believe me I don't like paddle boxes, I would have paid £5k more just for a manual I don't like em that much but I must say its not too bad in the 612. The Bose 2 din stereo is really good, best sound since I spent a few grand on an alpine setup in my 996 c2 and I'm very happy with that. Sat nav a bit rubbish but that's not a big concern. Phone works good as well.
It rides bloody well considering the wheel and tyre size and I drive on some pretty rubbish roads so that's good as well.
Can't think of much else as only had the car a few weeks but any questions just ask.

I must admit that I thought all the engines were still built by Ferrari and delivered to the Maserati factory for installation. That is in essence what our guide told us when we went round the Maserati factory last year, which is less of a manufacturing plant and more of an assembly facility with all major components being delivered by outside suppliers.
Also did a tour there last Year and IIRC the later 4.7 engines had blue covers, the earlier 4.3? red. All engines are built by Ferrari in Maranellobqf said:
The biggest problem you'll have with the 612 is frankly, it's blandness. It doesn't feel epic like a 550 does, it feels like what it is - a 4-seat GT car for long journeys.
I drove the one at the Ferrari Centre in kent and I was put off. I only did 20 miles or so but it felt less exciting than my E55 AMG.

Forgot to add the car just had an annual service which cost £1750 and I was quoted on another car I was looking at a cambelt and 6250 mile service for just under £4k inc some discount at main dealer. I think the cambelts on their own are about £1800 every five years from main dealer but could be wrong on the cost.

There are tons of cars faster than a 612...however very few of them are purpose built. Mercs are lovely in many respects, but they still sell the car with agricultural engines. So at 60-70k you have effectively the same car as some Addison Lee driver bought for 5k.jimmyslr said:
I've been lurking for a while and am soon getting to the point where I might be making a v12 purchase. Specifically, I have in mind a 550. I have driven a few and also a 575 manual for comparison. The one nagging doubt is around 4 seats so I am off to look at a 612 tomorrow; I tried a Maserati GTS but, sorry Maserati owners, it didn't feel special like a Ferrari. Not a looker the 612 I grant you, but it's growing on me and is looking like serious value now and those extra seats might mean I use it more.
In my opinion the 550/575 is one of the ugliest Ferraris since the Mondial, also its huge and only 2 seats, waste of space.The Quattroporte is worth looking at, still one of the best cars I have ever owned. 612 has been with me for almost 2 years, day in day out...even when the great unwashed stay away from the goverment jobs due to two flakes of snow the car still runs perfectly.
However the build quality is shocking, as with all Ferraris, but on the flipside it makes repairs very easy. In fact there is no reason for any dealer to charge more for Ferrari repairs (ex-engine diag.) than for a modern Skoda.

I have personally seen Maserati engines with blue covers in the engine assembly section at Maranello in May 2012. Not sure how many are still built there, or which types are built there. But there certainly were some engines being built.Onno
