I remember the exige put out 170bhp in standard trim. There was a factory tuning option that put this up to 190, but didn't this guarantee MOT failiure due to emissions? I'm sure that's why they stopped doing it. I'm sure this is the same score with the new elise '2' and it's optional 190 upgrade. So, effectively the ultimate road legal exige was only 170bhp. Do the SVA rules let the nutter 230bhp R500 off with the emmissions then???

I think they class it as a component car, so it only has to pass a 'visible smoke' emissions test. I doubt you can buy the R500 as a 'factory built' car, i.e. they sell it to you minus the wing mirrors, and you have to screw them on to finish 'building it yourself'.

I am soooo glad my car is pre 1993, so I can throw the cats away in the bin and forget about dicky lambdas and the like

There you go - you are all closet Superlight R owners, have a go - you wont regret it.

190bhp superlight R is fast enough and very reliable, no engine re-build. a bit extreem some days but boy what a ride.
