Ultimate gearbox IMHO is the F1 superfast II in the 430 scuderia.

So much better than the normal F1, e gears and DSGS.
A real joy to drive with both speed and sensation of a gear change

Hi all,

I’ve been following this thread for some time but this is my first post, I traded in an F430 on Tuesday 04/04/17 for a 458 Italia and would just like to share my experience to give you all an idea of part ex values. My car was a 2006 F1 Rosso red with black Daytona seats it had covered 18,000 miles with full Ferrari service history. They gave me £71,000 for the F430 which I was happy with as I paid £72,000 for the car when I bought it in 2014. I bought the 458 from GC Motors in Harrogate it’s a 2011 with 11,800 miles and it cost £145,000.

I also got offered £77,500 from Ferrari Meridien Modena in Hampshire but that was against a 2012 458 at £160,000 with 10,700 miles
I think your car has sold already? frown

Yes - the thump of a manual with the ease of a paddle. Like some sort of robotised manual gearbox. Hmm, which car has that..? wink
That sounds very familiar to me smile

Which gearbox does the Challenge Stradale have?

Not the above.
An earlier version of the F1 system in the 360 with an ECU upgrade.
The F430 F1 system was a lot better than the early F1 gearbox, quicker and not so clunky.

CS system is OK when really on one but for slower driving it's not so nice.

The F1 superfast II system is brilliant for all types of driving and I've yet to find a car with a nicer gearbox including 458 Speciale and 675LT

Understand the attraction of an easy px but had you advertised it privately you'd have got easily 7/8k£ more for it... have a couple friends who are looking that would have bought it at that level, let alone £71k !!

Yep, I do like the bang in the back as you go up the gear in the CS!

You still get that in the 430 scuderia but its not as violent and a lot quicker. I would say CS is similar if not a bit more severe to a Lamborghini Gallardo Performante e-gear in race mode.
Just a fraction to jerky and slow in comparison to the F1 superfast II system IMHO

Gear change in 991 TurboS I drove was lightning fast and very smooth and rather boring compared with CS. Hope to try a Scud soon.

For anyone seriously looking:

This F430 Spider Manual looks well priced - Main Dealer supply with 2 yrs Ferrari Warranty, 2006 model with 24k miles - £112,500.

Looks sensibly priced to me.

I would love a 430 but they seem very expensive for what you get. I would choose an f1 over a manual though - speaking to the younger generation (i am 41) they all seem to prefer autos so who will want the manuals? Similar to manuals selling for less when first on the used market.

I'm 27 with a manual so must be terribly old fashioned.

That's how I see it in say 10 years time. The fascination around old school manuals will wear off when the generation brought up on manuals and currently with the capital/disposable income move on. The new kids on the block wont be driven by the manual stick so much so the manual element will become less of a driver but the rarity will still have an effect.
Low mileage manuals are currently having a purple patch inflating and skewing all other F430 prices as well.

I bought my 2009 F1 F430 spider for £110k sold it 3 years later for £85k which is what I expected and yet today due to its high spec and adjusting the mileage it would be worth £120k another 3 years on. An increase of £10k but 6 years older and 3 times the mileage
Go figure how that makes any sense

Wow, had no idea it was that good. Would love to give it a try.

Hi all first time on this forum, some fantastic advise ,opinions and analysis my head hurts !!

I'm thinking of jumping in and getting a f430 maybe next winter when the market softens.

I plan on keeping it for a good few years only driving it in summer and doing few miles

Really as a garage queen and investment

I dont know what to buy though for example there is on up for 73 k but high miles in gray (52000)

And a Rosso Red one with cream interior 86 k but slightly lower miles 41000

As an example would either one of these be a good investment

I apologise in advance if I sound like a fool

You're thoughts and advise would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance paul

Maybe, maybe not. No one really knows.

What we do know is to keep these cars on the road and in good condition will cost several thousand per year. Some years you might be looking at a lot more. Once you get into long term ownership you are looking at a full refurbishment at some point, probably around 40 year mark when stuff starts to perish. That's going to be a big bill.

Also if you want a garage queen you have to start with a garage queen.

Thus, to treat these cars as an investment is not investing IMHO its gambling.

Eventually as they get older, the mileage will become less of an issue...I dont think we have reached that point yet and who knows when it will happen but in respect of the two cars you mention, the red/crema will always be more desireable if you ever come to sell ...It's not called 'retail red' for nothing. :-)

That grey 430 has had a respray and, by the owner's admission, has some cosmetic issues with the roof. Sounds a tad ropey to me, hence the low price point.

Going rate seems to be around £80k for a decent 06/07 430. I remember when they were £65k several years back, so prices (on the whole) are on the up. I think if you get a nice example and don't pile the miles on, you won't lose much, if anything, in depreciation. Same with Gallardos.

A 430 is not an investment grade car. The end. There are too many of them. The only 430 which is investment grade is the 16m.

Buy to enjoy. If you are fortunate to cover running costs with price appreciation at time of sale, that's a bonus. But don't bank in it. The current asset price boom will not last forever.

As has been mentioned above, an old car will need a full rebuild at some point in the distant future. For that to mean something, it will also need the hallowed Classiche certification. Budget for 6 figures to do all that.
