I blame you lot.

I am having a test drive of a 355 Spider tomorrow because of you lot. Why oh why did I look at this forum. My accountant has disowned me...

I am keeping the Porca but need an open top beasty to enjoy for the next few months.

Can someone suggest some decent insurers, I want to leave my no claims on my 911 so it may be tricky getting a non stratospheric price.

You're in a hurry run the comparison with the 996TT then eh? (sorry, couldn't resist). Knew we had previously done an 'insurance' thread so this is worth a look www.pistonheads.net/gassing/topic.asp?t=12958&f=63&h=0
It goes swiftly off-topic, but that's part of the fun. Useful info here as well:

I don't know whether to wish you good luck or not! A word to the wise- if you don't want to buy the car, don't take it over 3K rpm; if you take it anywhere near the redline you are toast!

Think about this very hard. It really needs a garage. My roof doesn't leak now, but in seriously hard rain some can filter through. Thats after only about 2 hours. I am talking about only a couple of drops, and thats only because I opened and closed the door and I think maybe this caused the seals to move a bit. Nevertheless, its quite common for a Ferrari convertible to leak in serious rain. And several hours of continous rain would test the seals (and your love for the car). I couldn't bare the thought of leaving that car out everyday.

Oh, and Kevin's right: don't hit over 3,000 rpm and NEVER go through a tunnel until you are absolutely positive you want to keep the car, or decide you want to get a 360 with a tubi Plus be prepared to waste a lot of your life talking shit about exhaust and engine sounds, mimicking said sounds, having a massive smile everytime you go through a tunnel, slowing down, dropping a gear and blasting through tunnels, valleys etc., having a massive smile everytime you see other nutters with the same disease blasting past you, and you following suit, pretending you are driving a formula 1 car (VERY easily done; trust me, I know I am not Schumacher, but you are soooo easily tempted to pretend, you'll see for yourself), having sound clips of your car and other cars recorded on your computer and playing them back to yourself when you are seriously bored at work (or need a little inspiration).

I once queried whether the bug will die off and I will become "normal" again. The reply I got from Kevin was "one is too many and two is not nearly enough". Several months later, the bug hasn't died, Kevin's 360 with tubi has given me another inspiration, and now seriously considering a tubi too, just while I wait for the 360's to come down in price .

You have been warned in advance, be very, very careful. Take this matter of revving over 3,000 rpm very seriously . These bloody Ferrari's should come with a warning on the label: "Driving these at high engine speeds and through tunnels can be very damaging to your social life and personality and can be highly addictive. If unsure, contact your medical advisor."

ps. sorry for the long post, just waxed my car earlier today and decided to take it for a quick drive before putting it back into the garage (hate starting it only for a couple of seconds). Quick drive? Like f**k, couldn't bear to put it back, did all the tunnels in my area (ooh err, sounds a little sick, no? NO COMMENTS FROM MANU PLEASE), and ran along the A41 keeping in 4th gear and playing the revs at around 4k rpm and just listening to the howling sound. Love it! I am absolutely piling the mileage on this car. nearly 3,500 miles in 3 months! I need to contact the insurance company and let them know that the 6,000 annual allowance is not nearly enough! Hopefully you get a measure of what these cars will do to you. Consider renting a garage? Good luck and look forward to a meet!

Oh, by the way, you don't state which year the car is but if its a pre 97 car then check out www.ferrarichat.com and do a search on pre 97 355's. They had some problems that should have been ironed out, but at least you'll know what you are looking for and can get your dealer to solve under warranty (or before you buy).

Rich,

I see the disease is contagious. You'd have to be two prossies short of a brothel (sorry ninja-I couldn't resist) not to want a 355 spyder. The car looks so damn sexy. You'll love its stock sound and you'll positively adore the sound a Tubi makes, but alas that is another story.

Good choice and I hope it works out for you!

You know when you get that feeling that you know how everything will end? In a weird, prophetic way? Have you and Manu considered another line of business? Second thoughts, not such a good idea. Manu might go through all your stock himself!

When I got the TVR Sunninghill matched my NCB off the insurance for my Citroen... nice friendly people, very good service to date.

Probably worth talking to several specialists and see what sort of deals they can do you.

Okay Ajay. Come clean, how did you find out?! Promise to keep it to yourself and there'll be no need to mention why the women also love the newer, longer pipes you guys offer.

PS. Manu, who's disgusting? The way you kept undressing that waitress with your eyes, she could have caught a cold pretty soon.

Ninja,
i saw on another thread that you were after a yellow 355 spider. My dealer had a 1998 yellow spider, 15k miles.

rich, which dealer did you get it from and how much was the car? Saw a 1998 S reg from Graypaul with 11K miles for 69950 which seems like a good price. Anyway, have decided that its lovely to have the red with the cream. Yours is a 1999, so I guess the cambelts will have been done too? Saves a big service for 3 years, mines got to be done sometime next year. (last owner did it 10 months earlier, bloody idiot!)

Regards (and prepare to spend some money on a tubi)

Problem is which car do you bring for the meets?

Ninja,

Belts were done in December.. which is a relief.

The Yellow is up 4 75k but its at the dealer on SOR so they will take offers.

Which dealer Rich. In my experience they are tighter on prices with the SOR stuff, as they prefer to sell their own cars (understandably).

Consider getting armourfend done, at least on the inside of the front wheel arches. Costs only £8 a strip from Maranello's, but thats assuming they ever get round to doing it.
