With the help of Manu my 355 has now had the full Tubi, de-cat experience, the sound quality is just perfect! You don’t need tunnels, just a wall close to the road to reverb’ the sound.

No engine check lights, perfect alignment of the tailpipes, and great service from Manu who even delivered the system in person to the garage who later did the fitting.

Hope to make your next meeting, if anyone has any questions about the sound quality/noise levels/engine checks….. Please forward an email I would be happy to help.

See you all soon.

Hey ninja.

If bernard turns up at the meet on the 22nd sept, you're probably going to make an expensive decision!!!

Glad you're happy with the system Bernard. I knew it would sound great! Let either Manu or myself know if you have any problems.

Cheers.

PLEASE BERNARD AVOID VIRGINIA WATERS ON THE 22ND!!! PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU.

I would extend that plea to Kevin, but we don't have a realistic chance vs 996TT without a 360, and Kevin Kevin's already guaranteed 360 residual values so he can't harm me any more, I'm already hooked and need a "360 with a tubi" fix.

Does anyone know if a Tubi + de-cat affects insurance premiums?

Back box modifications has no effect in my case (ooer matron etc.). I told them about it straight away and they (ClassicLine) were fine and simply issued a new policy at no additional charge. They get interested if you combine it with induction kit but don't know about the de-cat bit. Will depend on whether they have data suggesting increased risk of theft or accident.

Forgive my inexperience here, chaps but in all your talk of enhancing the 355 soundtrack, just how much better does the Tubi exhaust make things?

And decatting? I thought this would be some form of sacrelige?

It's just that the basic effect - to the average punter like me - is SO sensational, anything better seems inconceivable!

there is some sound bites from GT2mans old 355 here
www.respect-recruitment.com/mp3 - IIRC that was a Damax exhaust but the end result is very similar.
Think F1 car and you are somewhere near!!

By Decatting the car the exhaust flow is unrestricted to the silencer. This means that the flow between the test pipes and silencer has increased dramatically at any given point between the two. The increased flow of exhaust gases means that the engine temperature remains cooler as the hot gases exit that car a lot quicker.

How does this relate to sound? The Tubi silencer is a lot smaller than the standard silencer on the 355, hence the volume of gas that it holds is smaller also meaning that the gases exit through the end pipes a lot quicker through a smaller volume of piping. So you have increased flow from the test pipes leading to a silencer which is smaller in volume. This is what gives the basier sound which is what you dont have on the standard 355. Couple this with less sound baffling and you have your louder sound. Therefore, if you want the loudest sound possible fit straight pipes all the way from the manifold back to the end pipes, hence making the gases totaly unrestricted and the car totally unsilenced! (and you totally deaf!)

F355GTB's car is a lot basier on idle and a lot louder than standard across the rev-range. The standard 355 is good but once Tubied the car sounds almost Formula 1!

I've heard Bernard's car myself and it's sensational, especially at high revs. The great thing is that the 355 sound quality is not altered much if at all- it's just louder. I followed Ninja & Bernard in their cars and the two sounded very similar, one being louder than the other. Bit more popping on the over run in Bernard's car too.

It's a bit sad I know, but I think of exhausts as wind instruments, and the same way you get different sounds with the same pair of lungs powering flutes, tubas, trumpets etc., you should be able to configure any sound you wish from an exhaust. In fact I don't see why you can't alter the sounds from a single exhaust using valves to alter pipe length and gas flow- same as a wind instrument. Check it out at www.sadbastards.net

Kevin, if sadness resides in the strange experiences of the body psycho-sematic, whenever one is exposed to the divine activity of plunger despression c/o anything 'Stallion Maranellic,' then I must conclude that an overwhelming majority of homo-sapiens who exist on this plane of existence are but distraught dreamers thereafter...

I've used this quote previously but it's so apt (this, in fact, describing the imperious warblling emitted from your own venerable 2+2 transport of delight): "Like a longhorn announcing Caeser with satchmo exhalations." Fabulous.

Yes indeed, that's it; imperial, majestic - the very adjectives so in keeping with the incomparable dynastic bloodline.

I need more kleenex.

P.S. I know you have one, Kevin but for the mortals amongst us in PH land, go to www.williamloughran.co.uk and check out the rear three quarter angle on his red 360 Spyder; I simply swoon. It's just so, so edible!

Derestrictor- you're a bit of a mad bugger aren't you, but in a nice way! Always consider it a bit of a triumph if I get to the end of your posts and have understood what you're getting at!

And look Ninja- he's just found your car for you- spider, manual, cream leather, red :

It is pretty damn gorgeous I have to say, though I do hate this P.O.A. crap. That yellow 360 looks nice too. It's a '99 too so no pre-cats, shame it's an F1 rather than manual.

Noooooo Kevin! Why do you guys insist on causing me pain? I've been in a bloody trance for about 10 minutes after looking at those. Problem with the Spider is that the interior is tan rather than cream. So I can't get it......... . Okay, okay the real reason is I can't afford it. Not just can't afford, haven't even got the money for it!!!. Also, by the time I want to change, it still won't be affordable. And I'm still not too sure which I would prefer, Spider or Modena? It actually hurts inside looking at those pictures, it really does. Had a blast in the 355 yesterday, still sounds lovely.

That is more like it! Maranellos had similar but manual and at £85K! 22K miles though (no big deal to me) and yellow. Really considered it.

Oh, Derestrictor, Kevin hit the nail on the head. I too sometimes give myself a pat on the back when I've read some of your posts and actually (think) I understood it!! I probably look like I've just found God/closed major deal/won lottery etc. They're all great fun though so don't dare stop the style.

Incidentally,

A black 360 drove by the office just now and it looked bloody gorgeous! Rosso will always be the number one choice but I really love black on a Ferrari.

Ninja could have sworn I saw you test driving a Rosso 360 spider the other day and part exchanging it with your 355 spider or was I mistaken????

Kevin, Ninj - the experience of your chosen steeds is nothing short of religious; indeed, so pure is the drama that it can be defined into 3 categories.

First, we see the style. Pininfarina is clearly God, redressing via earthly means, what he overlooked after his seven days' toil.

Second, the howl. A Siren call that mercilessly straps me to the mast of Maranello, spellbound as that ship of desire threatens to crash on the rocks of domestic strife...

Third and without any doubt, the King of Tactility itself; The Gearchange. What else compares to slotting home that chromed shaft of definitive lust, unbridled pleasure in a jolt of orgasmic necessity.

Dear oh dear; and we're supposed to believe that a car is for getting us from A - B? Well maybe but only after a few well deserved detours via Hugh Heffner's rather salubrious palais de plasir.

I can see the white coats yonder...
