I think the speed of these vehicles is absolutely irrelevant they're all too quick for 99.9% of what they're used. If you want drive a car for an event nothing comes close to the SV.
I'm on my second Aventador I live in a semi rural location and have absolutely no issues about driving my Aventador almost anywhere, however I do concede parking is a pita so I only park it where I can do so side onto the road and not between other cars side by side. That said I'm the same with any supercar.
If I were to to do a lot of track days I'd probably choose the Speciale otherwise the Aventador every time, these cars are pointless toys so you might as well have one that makes you smile!
Enjoy.

Isn't that last post really the answer? If you do a lot of track days (unless you want it as an investment), get the Speciale. If not get the Aventador. If you want an investment I have some innovative world first baldness/flatulence/male pattern baldness/impotence and nose hair curing oil available in industrial quantities just ready for you.

It's great that you can just ask a question like this here and get genuine input from owners of both cars and even owners who have owned or do own both!

Anyway the best of luck with your choice and do let us know and post pics.

Hi all,

So I am in a situation.

After owning and running a Ferrari 458 Italia for 6 months and a 1000 miles later I have decided to swiftly move on to something more super / special.

Currently I have a deposit (refundable) on a Lambo Aventador SV coupe in arancio atlas (metallic orange). It's with an authorised dealer.
It's a coupe, well sepc'd incl the comfort seats however has 8k on the clock. A genuine 1 owner car. Price negotiated £339k. No px.

On the other hand I have been offered a lovely Ferrari 458 Speciale (respected independent) with just under 1k on the clock, fully spec'd (all carbon exterior) for £330k and px £168k for my Italia.

I am in a situation because I really do not know which car to choose. I love the Ferrari as it's something amazing to drive and look at but it's not got the same drama and presence as the Lambo SV. The main things that matter to me are the overall excitement of driving the car and resale in 1-2 years. I don't want to loose tens of thousands on any car.

Any advice based on the above. Much appreciated.

UPDATE*** So far it seems we're on 10-2 (SV:Speciale).

To quote Evo:

Aventador SV For: More exciting than the standard Aventador. Against: ISR gearbox inconsistent.

458 Speciale For: evo Car of the Year 2014. Against: If you don't own a regular 458, nothing.

As for track times, EVO had the Speciale is 1:14.2 around Anglesey Coastal Circuit. They had a 918 Spyder doing it in 1:12.4 (and a 488 GTB in 1:12.8). I couldn't find a time for any Lambo.

No question about which more is dramatic for a drive past Harrods though. Happy driving whatever you choose.
Do you still have the speciale and the specialeA - or have you traded one by now? I still think you should try a CGT ....
Yep. The Speciale remains one of the most agile, beautifully weighted, fastest point to point cars I've ever driven. Until the the 488 VS is announced, which promises to be nuts.

I'd consider a murci SV instead, still too big for UK roads but saves you over £100k, holds their value, absolutely rapid and feels special

I've got a speciale and my brother had the sv. If you want drama then its the sv hands down as everyone has said.
But along with the drama comes a few cons. Firstly the car is uncomfortable if you have the racing seats some people can cope with them fine others cant last more than an hour or two. Secondly the car is wide and if you're driving in the city it's going to be a headache. It's also too wide for B roads, so you're going to have to be on nice wide roads where you can put your foot down to make the V12 count. The speciale ticks all the boxes you'd expect of modern (pre turbo) supercar.
You have 8/10 of the sv drama without the headaches and it's chassis is second to none when it comes to handling balance and playfulness. I for one would never need a faster car for the road or even the crack.
Interestingly another PH member called Woopum has a speciale, gt3rs, 918 and a p1 and he says the speciale is the most fun car to drive out of all four on the roads and is the apple of his eye.
If you want to add a bit more drama I'd change the exhaust and for me anyway you have the perfect supercar, in my biased opinion anyway.

PS my brother didn't miss the SV as he found it too uncomfortable and annoying to drive in town.

Few cars are as sweet as this:

This is what I have based my opinion on.

The Speciale is an amazing car, truly amazing. But a £330k 1k mile one is a toppy garage queen. If the OP buys that car and drives it he is sure to lose a considerable sum of money on it.

In more general terms if you can find a Speciale that has done some miles and is priced commensurately then it's a much harder decision, but as is it - with the two prospects presented, and the criteria - I think it's a easy decision.

I don't think that you can prudently budget to own one of these sorts of cars for 1-2 years and not expect to lose 20%+ bid to offer?

Your quote went a bit funky there, but yeah I agree.

Perhaps 20% is a bit extreme - I don't know the Lambo market - but regards the OP not wanting to lose "tens of thousands", I'd assume that's pretty much a given, certainly with the spread buying from and selling back to a main dealer.
