A friend of mine is looking to start up a new event next year, wonder if this is of interest to any clubs or groups. Straigtliners are the guys, so it could be quite a nice social trip. This was the info sent , will post further details as they come out. I don't know if anyone would mind sharing this with Adam and the guys at SCD perhaps?

"On a separate topic, We are going to run a Supercar event in the IOM next year the date will be the 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th of April 2018 this will consist of Drag Racing, a closed roads hill climb, a full track day with no noise limit ,a Kart Grand Prix a vist to the new Manx Motor Museum social functions and a drive over the mountain course
The package will cover the ferry and all the activites, there will be a full accommodation list at a discounted price so drivers can stay in a BB or 5 star hotel its up to them.
there will be an overall winner and a trophy, this will be an anual event."

Would need convincing on the weather. IoM is usually as cold as November in April, it rains a lot, and the wind whips up debris onto the roads.

Some of the German car / bike clubs go to Corsica and do something similar. That might be another option.

Think they are probably dictated by other events organised in the IOM in summer months.

Except Straightliners is based on the IOM therefore promoting it from there. Still a good experience by the sound of it for people who’ve never been. Weather is often crap for TT also but that’s doing well.

This will have the opportunity of timed sprints and the closed road hill climb etc rather than just driving over the mountain. Jurby airfield for a track day isn't bad either. I'm not on the SCD forum but if someone can pass it on if of interest I can give them Trevs details if they want to perhaps talk direct.

Timed. So an MSA regulated event ?

timed yes, and approved, however i suspect MSA arent ruining it for everyone :-)
the same guys run the Ramsey sprint, which is day entry, so i suspect they are using the same licensing format for day entries and road cars.

You will find that due to MSA homologation rules many supercars will require MSA ROPS (roll over protection systems). Some will need HANS. Some harness belts etc, applies to any model that had less than 1,000 units manufactured per annum.

God bless the MSA !

hey dont shoot the messenger, and the MSA dont sanction every event, hence Toyota sprints, javelin sprints, Ramsey sprint etc all run quite nicely. All these type events are being run by companies already running them without issue, at the end of the day this is people driving their road car to and from the IOM and taking part in some organised licensed (non MSA) activities.

Sounds great. Although living on the Isle of Man I'll skip the ferry and hotel bit! Hopefully there will be a package for locals too.

sure. Although without MSA there won't be any insurance for drivers in a timed event.

Please stop going on about the msa lol. The other sanctioning bodies for these events manage to run other timed sprints you know !
If you are that interested go gave a chat with Straigtliners rather than taking the thread off topic.

It's hardly off-topic biggrin

Yes, the recognised sanctioning bodies for timed insured events are

(a) the Auto Cycle Union Limited
(b) the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile
(c) the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme
(d) the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association Limited

Suggest you go chat to Trev @ straightliners and ask how he runs about 40-50 events a year. Pendine sands, Ramsey sprint (for the IOM govt), pod drag racing, Ten of the Best, world wheelie records etc etc. None of which are run without official license, insurance and the like.

Back on topic, if anyone wants info head over to their website once info posted.

It's highly likely I am not the only hillclimber mindful of insurance being in effect when competing in timed events wink

I was referring to the childish comment "thank you for clarifying its run without insurance".. which was pathetic at best.

If anyone genuinely is interested I'll give you Trevors details and he will confirm that no one is required to get a roll cage fitted, no one will need hans devices fitting, and the events are run with full licensing and approval just like any other timed sprint event.
Javelin and Straightliners plus others all run perfectly safe legal events, via one of the other licensing agencies. Just speak to them rather than wasting your time guys :-)
Oranges are not the only fruit neither are the MSA lol.
This is a road car set of events, including road driving section and a non timed track day.

I've done as asked, passed the info on, thats me done now. Just for the pedant who believes the msa are the only way to go sprinting :

https://www.straightlinersonline.co.uk
http://www.javelinsprintdays.co.uk/sprint/

Anyone interested in the IOM supercar event just drop Trevor at Straightliners a line as it's all at the planning stage I believe.
Goodnight and God bless lol
