Think they will be sat with that for a while!

I will guess they maybe paid £20K trade for that. For 6-8k more on top of ask you can get one with 40 percent less mileage!
thats the cheapest by some £5k and will no doubt be cheap for a reason, plus its the semi auto. the odd one about on the trader at £30-35k is CAT D, generally.
94k miles isnt itself that bad, i suspect the engine would do 150k if looked after. if it was genuine, and you set aside £5-10k to cover repairs (hoping no engine or box faults) then its cheap "semi" supercar territory.

pistonheads cheapest.

on AT there is a car at £30k "must be gone by saturday" but generally £35k for a high miler (comparatively) and bland colours without carbon /or wrapped is generally about the mark.

£40k+ seems to get you into something nicer, with better miles and history.

The earliest/higher miles R8's have hovered around £40k for about 5 years+ now. The floor does seem to have dropped £5k or so in the last 6 months.

I was talking more about the early V8 cars to be honest Barrie. Your deal seems n absolute belter and with so few V10 manual/spyder I think yours will hold its value very well indeed at what you paid.

If anything, its the value of yours that has perhaps impacted the earlier cars that were previously £40k. Paying £40k for a 2007 V8 car when only £10k ish more puts you in a later V10 is a no-brainer for most people I would imagine. £50k - £60k for a V10 looks great value or makes an early V8 "bad" value at £40k or whatever way around you want to view it - the gap between the two cars should remain pretty static % wise I should imagine.

This is a good read and will put your mind at rest Barrie. It could be a shrewd investment, Crystal ball time.

[Yes i follow i think for me it was more luck as I wanted a v10 and ideally manual. I agree with your thoghts in the pricing structure i also feel or hope the V10 manuals wont fall much further if at all in the next 3 to 4 years unless the goverment tax them off the road in some way Shnozz]I was talking more about the early V8 cars to be honest Barrie. dont forget also, there are a lot of R8 out there. many of them are in the very plain basic colours and spec, and many have been "well used". lots have been wrapped, or got the blades wrapped to look like carbon. there is a huge difference in spec between a basic car and one that had a nice spec listed on it from new. i looked at a few around £40k, with upto 60k miles on them, and they are very tired (stonechips, alloy corrosion on wing edges, worn bolsters, basic plastic trim, non carbon/no cameras etc)
so its like comparing apples with onions. high spec, lower miles and i think its worth £5k min going on the dealer pricing.
ive not yet seen a V10 sub £50k though, that would be my cue to jump i think lol

I agree there are some tired examples out there but also you can separate the wheat from the chaff and find f all difference in price, or that was my experience when I had a look last year. £40k seemed to be the price of some dogs and some gems. Dealer margin rarely seemed to bring about more than a £2k difference in price which made little sense either. Long and short of it, between £39k - £42k seemed to include examples of private sale dogs and low miler minters for sale at a dealer. Very strange market.

There are so many factors that influence a sale, it's very hard to pin point it as an exact science:

- Car (high or low spec, good or bad condition, low or high mileage, desirable or undesirable colour, mileage, optional extras etc.)
- Circumstances of the buyer (been looking long, eager to buy, bottomless pit of cash etc.)
- Circumstances of the seller (how long has it been on the market, how eager are they to sell etc.)
- Time of year (now is a good time to buy but not sell)
- Distance from the buyer
- Economy
- Market forces
- Other marques

You put all those together and there are many, many combinations that will affect a sale that each one should be considered on its own. You could get a bargain you might not, all depends!

I will say I can't recall seeing a v10 lower than £55k - they are very early ones too. They are more like £60k, some £15k-£20k above a half decent v8.

I appreciate what you say but you raise market factors that effect all vehicles however (or certainly "toys" as a sub-section).

My own observations were that R8s seemed to be a bit of an anomaly in all being within a minuscule price variation, regardless of any factors. It made no sense. In any other marque I have looked at generally there was a variation dependent on the factors you identified (and options can be added to the list), whereas in R8 sales it seemed you could pay the same for a dog as you would a more loved example. As for the V10 - did the poster not above just bag what looks to be a mint V10, manual and spyder (the latter I appreciate may not add to the value but the box certainly holds a premium) for less than your figure? By several k?

Not talking down the values as I think these are wonderful cars that deserve the price they achieve (arguably more).

My recent Spyder v10 purchase car is not mint its very good but has a couple of small things

Front discs and pads worn 70%
Tyres rear 3mm front 4mm
2 stone chips on screen
Drivers seat bolster has some minor wear
Tiny areas kerbing on 2 alloys
Tyre repair gel out of date

All of those I guess you would ask a dealer to sort if you paid screen price so that will set me back a few quid to get sorted

On the upside it had a new clutch at 4500 quid 2k miles ago and new rear discs and pads But all this is of no real matter as for me I still think the R8 v10 Spyder with the top down is one of the best looking cars ever made. the link below helped sway me

Eeeer.... no biggrin

Reckon you're looking at £3,500 - £4,000 to fix the items mentioned above.

You would get it done for around £2500 outside of the dealer network, but at least £4K at a dealership.

Without the seat bolster which is not bad I will easily get out for 1500 as have the new parts already minus the screen which will doubtless get worse and become an insurance claim item audi wanted 920 for that but again not everyone changes screens for a chip its not mentioned in mot in this case. Another pic from the rear

There's a v10 manual with 50k miles for sale for £49,995 privately as the guy needs a quick sale. Cheapest one I've seen yet v10. I think it's on PH and AT
