Stick on plate or plate in the window?
I thought the dealer had a duty of care to ensure a vehicle left their premises in a roadworthy state? I'd refer the police back to them. Incidentally what do the MoT testers make of it?
That's worse than being on the front of the car IMHO. Hate it when I see plates on dashboards thinking it looks cooler. Same about stick on ones on the side of the bodyworkI thought the dealer had a duty of care to ensure a vehicle left their premises in a roadworthy state? I'd refer the police back to them. There are so few traffic police about that you could probably drive about for ages before anyone said anything.
In all seriousness I'd keep your front plate in the car and say it was on the dash but it fell off when you gave it some stick or something.

- thanks - thats the plan.

No I meant put it inside the car in the door pocket or somewhere safe and then you'd have it to hand should you need it.
I don't really see why they couldn't have a front plate exemption. Bikes, various plant machinery and the like don't have them simply because, like a supercar there is nowhere for them to go.

4 years, not a peep from anyone in the UK, ferry crossings, Chunnel, all across Europe. I've been stopped too, just for checks. Still nothing. I even had 2 plod come up to me and ask if they could have photos with the car which they proceeded to do, stood at the front of it. I wonder if they ever noticed there was no plate on the front when they were looking at the pictures? In all seriousness I'd keep your front plate in the car and say it was on the dash but it fell off when you gave it some stick or something.
I suspect plod simply can't be arsed. I've followed police cars, driven past police cars, been sat in traffic when police have walked by. Nothing. Swiss police stopped a trio of us a couple of years back, again just for a check as they had set up on the Fluela. Never even mentioned it and there were two of us without front plates and one with.
Mine's in the boot. Came from the dealer with it in the boot. I run another car with no front plate now too. 12 months, nowt.

With the case of motor bikes thy were originally removed on the grounds of elf and safety. For those of us old enough to remember, front plates on bikes were mounted on the front mudguard facing upwards. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to guess what that could do to a pedestrian in the case of a collision.I don't really see why they couldn't have a front plate exemption. Running with no front plate could be a better idea than having a smaller illegally sized one, the former you could claim you didn't know it had fallen off then promise to fix it, is there a defence for a small plate?
This.If you're going to play numberplate games, don't bother with one at all. Having an illegally spaced one basically means you've made a conscious decision to disregard the regs, and the Police generally are hotter on that. Not having one at all, bizarrely, doesn't make you stand out as much.. in my opinion at least.
I ran without a front plate on my 458 for a year (it looks better, sorry) and had no issues whatsoever, even parked up or with Police cars in a posiiton to pull me. I tend to think that some officers aren't even sure themselves if supercars need to have one on the front, as silly as that sounds.
Obviously it will also depend how hot your local force is on it. In BANES they didn't seem to care too much. You're an easy £100 mark though wherever you are.
I suspect a plastic number plate would be the least of a pedestrian's worries when hit by a motorbike at speed. In any case, why don't bikes have a front facing plate, same orientation as on the rear? Cooling and/or aero problems? B*****ks! Same argument could apply to a typical supercar anyway, when air flow to the front intakes is quite important.

When was the last time you looked closely at the front of a motorbike...........??Edited by BlueIn2Red on Sunday 15th April 18:33

At the time motorbike front plates were dispensed with, they were made from metal and the majority of accidents involving pedestrians were at slow speeds.Edited by BlueIn2Red on Sunday 15th April 18:33
I do get that, but still don't really see a strong argument for why bikes are treated differently now. Yes it might be a bit awkward to fit front plates, but it is on plenty of cars too (see the McLaren above for example).
(Nothing against bikes by the way - I've owned many, albeit I don't ride currently. I do struggle to understand why the law differs here for cars and bikes though.)

Same here, passed may police cars, sat at light across from them etc etc. The only time in years it's been mentioned was the UK boarder force at the chunnel in 2016 - they suggested the french had got very hot on UK cars without front plates so we screwed them back on for that trip.I suspect plod simply can't be arsed. I really dont understand why people put them on the dash - surely that looks even 'worse' than on the front of the car.
