What next after GTR??

Had my r35 for a while now and would like something a little more exotic/ refined . I love the gtr and at 660bhp I knows there's not much in terms of performance that will match it but it's only a weekend car and I don't track it . Staying under 80k what options are there? R8 v10 plus , cayman gt4 , California, gallardo , f type r or svr? Anyone else changed from a gtr ?

I think for 80k a Cayman GT4 would offer the best drive and will be largely depreciation proof. Won't feel nearly as fast as a GTR off the line, but fun doesn't come in straight lines.

There is one real option which is the RS6.

Take it to Litchfield and you have a 730bhp monster that will give you more than the GTR.

The noise is sublime and the car is extremely practical as well. Economy is better than GTR as has cylinder deactivation.

My son has new R8 V10 plus and is epic. Only thing is they are well over £100k and so are very expensive.
Litchfield RS6 will out drag it in straight line but on bendy stuff it loses out.

I like the sound of both, love V8's and V10's so couldn't choose between them. RS6 better cost value alternative.

Had it with 6 cylinder rockets .. regardless of the eom exhaust change, I can never get the sound right.

V8, v10 or v12 for me so gallardo, California, scaglietti, v12v and maybe even m5 or amg

also had lovely fast cars 911's, E63;s M5 RS6 but found something missing. Went for a Db9 - not as fast or high tech as previous cars but a lovely drive and feels so good. I think you may enjoy the back to basics driving in one of the most beautiful cars ever made.


A nice V12 Vantage should be do able for the OP.

A V10 R8 is easily achievable on your budget and if you find it lacking in power, then a decent exhaust and APR map will take close to 600 hp. Given that the R8 is over 100 kgs lighter than a GTR you shouldn't feel much difference in terms of power.

Love the Gallardo, but feeling a little bit old. Had one pull up besides me at the lights on Friday and I didn't feel any twinge of wishing I was in that rather than mine.

Enjoyed both the F Types you mention earlier this year, but didn't feel special enough.

Love the look of the Cayman ... but imagine it wouldn't feel that special either.

Not a fan of Ferraris (just my opinion).

So would have to be the R8. Suitably modern, refined (for what it is), fast and feels (to me) like stepping in to something special. Owned the baby V8 since November as a near daily driver and it still feels special every time I drive it.

Very nice! A manual v12 vantage does appeal but I have heard Astons have reliability issues ? And is now a bad time to buy with the release of the new vantage? Now that's something I would like love the looks of the new one! New to sell an organ or two though ha

I do like the rs6 especially the purple ones as I had a little a45 in northern lights back along and loved the colour ! Just don't need the space as I have no children etc

Yes a v10 plus 2013 is tempting! I had an 09 manual v8 r8 with capristo exhaust , is the v10 plus different enough to make me feel like it's a new car if that makes sense ?

Has anyone got any experience in a mp4 12c ? I can see these dropping in the next year with low starting price of the 540 ? Maybe hang onto the gtr for another year and pick up a 12c for around 80 next year ?

The V10 is a big step up performance wise from the V8 and the Plus is a move forward again. The Plus also benfits from the facelift, so much smoother transmission if you go for semi-auto, and a few other cosmetic changes too.

there are cars already in the high 80's and in terms of performance no other exotic will match it north of £150k

For £80k if you want something more exotic then I would go for an F430, R8 V10 plus (Gen 1 facelift), Gallardo or an Aston Vantage V12. You may also be able to squeeze into a Mclaren MP4-12C

All of them mentioned above will give you that sense of occasion that IMO the very fast and arguably more capable cars like the GTR, RS6 etc can never do.
