Contemplating an R8 (Spyder) and noticed not many selling right now, probably time of year...
Looking at 12-15 model year, but really prefer a 16+ however still a bit pricey.
With a new model due early next year, what is the feeling on possible price drops for the current model. 16/17 cars currently start at £92 - £102. Trying to decide whether to wait it out.

The prices will go down but if you have a crystal ball to answer by how much, we'd all be millionaires. There are so many factors that could affect car pricing it's near impossible to put an accurate figure on it.

A new Gen 2 Spyder is £121k plus extras/options so the new face lift Gen 2 will be the same - roughly £130k to £140k. In 6 months time maybe you'll be looking at £80k-£90k for a gen 2 but that's plucking a figure out of the air.

Consider a time-machine instead. They are far more reliable but a bit pricier to run. Enables you to go back in time and be really smug about what is going to happen next. Warning, don't use both as you will tie yourself up in knots.

I don't know because I am poor.

But a would say prices will drop around 10k a year on newish models.

The new R8 is not exactly a revelation in the model genesis, I don't think owners of 2nd generation cars are going to be flocking to the new model. I would expect any Audi under 3yrs old to still depreciate hard (including the R8), prices then start to slow and only firm around the 8-10yr mark on the R8.

The latest revised R8 looks really bad they have lost their way. This will be the last R8 made so Audi have been lazy. The gen 2 looks better than Gen 3 to come. You will lose money on any late R8 purchase for sure. I would consider an upgrade from my gen 1 manual spyder when they get closer to gen 2 prices as the gap between them is getting smaller by the month

Not being funny but the answer is pretty obvious.

The R8 isn't a limited thing, anyone with cash can spec & buy one. There doesn't seem to any sign of it going away, therefore it's safe to assume there will be a new variant or facelift on the usual Audi upgrade schedule.

So yeah, a new model will make the older one lose value. Same applies to any regular production car.

Am I reading this right, are they ceasing the R8 after the next model? Is it a gen 3 or a gen 2 facelift?

Gen 2 facelift.
Just done a quick googe and there is a 1 or 2 reports on it so personally I would take it with a pinch of salt.
If its true it would be utterly gutting.

My car Gen 1 v10 Spyder has lost 80k approx from new in 8 years so 10k per year. My thoughts are that's where it might stay for a while give or take 5k either way

This was not written that long ago but i do think things have changed.

ISTR that Audi announced recently that the latest gen R8 will be the last “conventional” car before going hybrid in the next iteration.

Also, there have been a number of articles recently, on line and print ( this months Modern Classics mag being an eg) preficting that the R8 is a future classic.
Think Honda NSX and you get the idea. And i rememember when they could be had for about £15k.
